I live in NJ and the latest stupid law from the state is outlawing the use of hand held cell phone while driving. I can understand that while driving my car as my attention is taken away from the road. However, I will NOT give up my cell phone for our Guvnor! :mad Has any one run across a cell phone holder for a C5? I don't want some crappy looking thing either. I've searched all forums & archives that I can think of. :confused I apologize in advance if someone thinks I posted this in the wrong forum. I'm just hoping that someone here has had the good fortune to stumble across something. :w

We have to have an ear piece while using a cell phone on the military base. I usually put the cell phone in the cup holder and plug in the ear peice.

Thanks. I have the same set up, but the phone moves too much with "agressive" driving.

How does agressive driving and cell phone use go together?

Seems that either your driving or the person you're trying to talk/listen to is getting short-changed.

Hooray for New Jersey!

Most people cannot drive and talk at the same time. Hell, most don't pay enough attention as it is, so I applaud New Jersey for talking the initiative to stop people from using the telephone while driving an automobile.

What puzzles me though, is how you phrased your statement:

To which you counter with:

I am confused. :confused

I would think aggressive driving and cell phone use would not be compatable. I have had the ear bud set up and I put the cell phone in my shirt pocket. My current cell phone has a speaker phone option so I just lay it on the console when I call home to wake the boys up for school but I am not driving agressivly and most times are at a stop light.
I have a deep dislike for NJ and all their Laws, but the key word is hand held, I think that it will be like that in most states before long and may even be already.

The trouble is, a lot of people can't even use the "hands free" setup and drive. They're just not capable of focusing on the road. :(

Thanks for the reply. Living in NJ, I can say some laws are really not well thought out. I can't complain too much though since I am no politician. However my real motive is to try and find a holder for my cell phone so it dosen't bounch around the car when not being used safely. I would appreciate any ideas of companies that may have something for a C5.

Try this, put the phone in the console with the ear piece wire running out through the 'power cord' groove. It won't get away from you while you're trying to make that 2G turn on the exit ramp.

Great idea, thanks! Won't work with a flip phone though. :cry

Me Too

I'm in NJ too and will be looking for something soon for the cell phone. I'm not worried about the 62, Hell, you can't hear the stereo in that let alone a cell phone ringing or someone talking on it. If I get where I'm going, it beeps if I have a message, usually not too far or if I want to make a call, I pull over and shut the 62 off.
I'm going to need it for the truck and the beater. I suggest you do what I'm going to do, try a few local cell phone stores and see what they have for a holder, earpie :beer ce, microphone etc. I'm sure you can find something with velcro that will stop that moving around during the aggressive driving time. :beer
BTW....Did you happen to see the tiny article about the blood alcohol level being lowered again in NJ? Now if someone merely suggests going out for a drink after work or whenever, you're already legally drunk for thinking about it. :mad

;LOL boy Im glad I don't drink anymore, I wouldn't have been able to get out of bed without getting arrested :eek
as I've said before I feel sorry for those unfortunate souls in NJ :cry

I don't want to get into the talk vs drive discussion but I got tired of my phone falling out of the cup holder also. I found a $7.99 holder at Pep Boys that has a clip for the A/C outlet. It works but the looks aren't great. But some of the models they have might work for you. At least the price is right.

Thanks for the tip. Pray for nice weather to come back. I miss my car. :w

Panavise Cell Phone Holder

There is a company called Panavise that makes brackets(among other things) for cell phone hang up cups. The bracket I am refering to is piece of sheet metal bent is a kind of a "Z" shape and is painted black to minimize its presence when installed. It is mounted to the dash to the right of the radio using on or two of the radio mounting screws. The bezel around the radio is removed first of course and then reinstalled after the bracket is mounted. They are made to fit specific cars and I am very pleased with the results. You have to mount some sort of hangup cup to the bracket that will accompdate your phone. I use the hangup cup that came with the hardwired hand-free kit for my Motorola V60. I have pasted some of the info from the company website (www.panavise.com) that pertains to the bracket that is used in the C5. Here's the URL of a picture of the bracket installed in a C5:http://www.panavise.com/nf/comm/ind...ing a cell phone in ANY car. Good luck, Chris

Heard another one of those stores around here last week where some guy had an LEO behind him with lights and sirens on and the fool wouldn't pull over. When he finally did, he refused the officer's request to quit talking on the phone until he finished his conversation.

I really hate to use a cell phone while driving and if I have a chance, I 'll pull over somewhere to take the call, or if I can't, I try to limit the conversation to just a minute or so.

The plug-in earpiece and mike is a good idea. I have a beltclip holster for my phone and it doesn't interfere with the seat belt in either my truck or my C4 so the wires can be tucked in to your shirt or use a clip to keep the wires out of the way.

Chris

Many thanks for this great info. Looks like a winner to me.

I found some replacement suction cups at the local auto store. I think they are used for radar detectors. I glued one to the back of my spare phone case
and stick it to the climate control "window." Works ok and best of all it's not permanent. I used to have a phone that had a belt clip that I was able to clip onto the cup holder lid. Worked in a pinch. Just a thought.

I’m really not a fan of all these stupid laws just to cater to the masses. Have you noticed that the outrage of cell phone usage in the car has all but disappeared? I do believe it’s because all the people that were once complaining about this can now afford one and do it themselves. All of a sudden, it’s no longer an issue affecting only people assumed to be in a higher class.

I do however believe that we need only one law that prohibits any distracting activity while driving…period. This includes hand held phones, eating, reading, shaving, applying makeup, sex acts even playing a trumpet, all of which I’ve witnessed. One law, not a hundred.

As far as your question, I would suggest not getting anything that attaches to the car. Cell phones change too often and people upgrade usually within a year or two plus you need the flexibility of using your cell in more than one car. The new phones out have Bluetooth technology that will allow you to keep your phone clipped to your belt while you use a wireless earphone and mic. The phones also are capable of voice command dialing.
