I have a replacement spring for the center console release button but I'm not sure how to install correctly. Since the spring I'm replacing was already broken I don't know how it was attached. Does anyone have a picture or print? Thanks

No photo I'm afraid but.....if I recall, the spring is installed on it's side with the curved side toward the latch itself. There are two grooves in the console itself into which the ends of the spring are inserted, then the latch is placed up against the spring so that when it's pushed in, it flexes the spring and when released, the spring pushes it back out (to the left). The spring should be placed in a position where it resembles a letter 'C'.

I might have the above backwards but I don't believe so.

I replaced mine also along with the exterior pading. The button is kind of tricky if you don't have the old one as a guide. I wish I could help you with a pic...I could try to describe it to you...but that Im afraid would be like trying to tell someone how to tie their shoe laces over the phone!!! Buy the spring and toy around with it.... if you have a local GM / Chevy dealer nearby....ask if you can stop by towards the end of the work day...someone their is probably a Vette freak and would help you out. Good Luck!!!

Jeb, you were correct about the installation of the spring. I had it installed in less than five minutes. Thanks to both replys.

P.S. I purchased the spring from my local Chevrolet dealer with the part number I found using the search on this website. The GM part # is 12524132 Spring, F/ 10.242. The dealer info states this spring is for 1984 to 1993 but it matches the broken spring and does work on a 1996.

You're welcome. Have you noticed that whenever we need to do something on these cars, they just happen to be items not covered in the shop manuals?

LMAO
