the center console lid seems like it doesn't want to open.... it opens a tiny bit. seems like it is binding

Mine does the same thing if I try to open it from any position but sitting in the seat. For example, If I reach in from outside the car it wants to bind while opening. When I sit in the seat it opens fine. My first thought was that it may be designed that way to deter someone from just reaching in and being able to get into the center console. Strange!! ;shrug

If the parking brake lever is in the up position, it will bind on it.

The hinge is a kind of spring loaded double hinge and I've see them stick together from spilled soda or coffee. In order for it to function properly both plates must be free moving. I've gotten them lose by squirting little hot water on the hinge and waiting a minute. Once opened clean them up and lubricate with very little oil. The parking brake should not cause anything to bind. Remember the cover only opens little over 90 degree, not full 180.

A little wd-40 on all the hinges in the compartment and it'll open smooth and easy.

What they said works,:thumb, but try this also....

The hinge has a little camber to it, so when you are raising it open, try lifting up to you at the same time, that stretches the hinge and allows it to fold back.

JB.

Lift it up a few inches and then pull it toward you when lifting the rest of the way. There is nothing wrong with the lid, they are designed this way. Don't ask me why, though.
