There has been alot of controversey surrounding the LT4 vs the C5 and C6s.
My challege is how many Corvette magazines would cover such an event. I for one am willing to engage in this project. I own an LT4 stock.
PS. WANNA DRAG?

I owned a Great LT4 and now own a Great LS1.

LT4's are nice but as far a roasting LS1's with your LT4 ya need to take a break and the thread you posted on earlier today about beating 4 out of 5 LT5's, wake up home-boy the dreams is over! ;LOL

A lot of racing comes down to who it the better driver. Not always who has the more powerfull car. I will say I have driven a lot of both Lt4 and ls1 cars the past few monthes. And I think most of the LT4s can stay right with early LS1s. I have not driven a LT5. IT was always my dream to get one back in the 90s.

Like you, I had a 96 LT4 and now have a 2000 LS1. The LT4 would fly but so does the LS1. I don't know which would win but there has to be a lot of data out there for 1/4 mile times on both. As for an LT4 beating a 2003 or 2004 LS1 or a ZO6 - I don't think so. There is too much of a horse power difference over the LT4, and I am considering that an LT4 will produce between 360 and 390 HP on average.

I am assuming you are talking stock to stock.... close for an early LS1... but when you get to the LS6 as in the 02 -04 Z06 or the LS2 in the C6 it would be like bringing a knife to a gunfight. LT4s were great engines for the last year of the C4s, but they are now as outdated as Gatorbacks.

The 97s,thru 99 or so. I was just curious at the outcome with a lot of threads pertaining to how underated the lt4 was. The new vette's, well forget it. There in a whole new world. LoL! "Gatorbacks" I love it.

When it comes to stock, the LS2 in the C6 will not be beat. The LT4 and LS1 are great motors, but the new LS2 is by far the best yet.

relax. it was my stab at comedy. The cars I ran were early c5s and some c4s. The new one's we all know are beasts. BTW. nice rides you have. Which do you like better?

Excluding the LS7 of course. ;)

I didn't even want to mention the LS7. That goes without saying. Which one of my 2 do I like better?? That isn't easy to answer. The 64 has a new 350 that puts out over 400hp, but the new 05 is much more civil to drive. I really think the 05 is quicker. But if I could only have one it would be my 64. That car has timeless lines and turns heads everywhere I drive it.

LT4-FUN,
Your suggestion of a comparison of a Corvette track test with a major car magazine was actually done in December 1997. A LT5, LT4, and C5 were tested. Not the pairing you had suggested, but the C6 was but a mere twinkle in Dave Hills’ eye at the time of this test.

It was the cover story of the Corvette Fever December 1997 issue, pages 43-47, Who’s the King Now? The author was Jim Van Dorn. The test driver was Rupert Bragg-Smith, director of the Bragg-Smith Advanced Driving School. I will nutshell the article as best I can because there is no way in Hades I am typing it all out, I’m the slowest typist on the face of the earth.

Track temperature at Button Willow, Nevada was 100°, times were recorded via a G-Tech Pro Performance Meter (G-Techs’ have variables that most people know about).

“Marketing aside, real Corvette enthusiasts want to know if the C5 has the viscerals to go the distance with its forefathers. To answer that question, we arranged with a group of Corvette enthusiasts to do some real world track testing. There were only two production Corvettes we chose to stack up against the C5. Naturally, the ZR-1 was an obvious candidate, as was the 13th and final version of the C4, the LT4 powered 1996 Corvette Grand Sport. All vehicles were equipped with standard gear ratios, six-speed transmissions and original tires. All were low mileage, privately owned stock versions, except for the addition of an after-market exhaust system on the Grand Sport. While the ZR-1 was equipped with the standard FX3, the Grand Sport and C5 had the F45 option adjustable shocks. The vehicles’ owners all belong to a California based group of active Corvette motorsports enthusiasts, who are officially organized as TEAM ZR-1.”

Here are the results of the track tests:

0-60 Acceleration:
LT5..........5.4 sec
LT4..........5.8 sec
LS1..........5.5 sec

Quarter Mile:
LT5..........13.20/114 mph
LT4..........13.66/111 mph
LS1..........13.90/110.4 mph

Lap Time (in minutes):
LT5..........2.30
LT4..........2.33
LS1..........2.36

Braking (60-0) (in feet):
LT5..........162
LT4..........145
LS1..........130

All times recorded on closed course with expert driver (Rupert Bragg-Smith) track temp at 100°

Hope this helps you out some. I’m outta here till January 3rd. Happy holidays to everyone on the CAC!

I didn't think the LT4 would be that close to the LS1. I'm guessing that it's awesome torque curve in addition to the exhaust mods of the owner is what allowed it to just eclipse the LS1 in the quarter mile time...
And the LT5 still holding it's own after all those years...not too shabby! (back in '97)

POST-EDIT: I just went back and really looked at the times... I didn't think I was faster than a base LS1 in the 1/4 mile. A 13.9s 1/4 mi seems awfully slow for that car... Anyone else think so?

Soooooooooo! :bang
As in, the LS1 shoulda been faster than a 13.9 in the quarter?

Thaaat's what I thought. I didn't think I was faster than even the 'slowest' factory C5... I'm getting real close though! Maybe this year could be the year (Re: 1/4 mile ETs)

The best I ever ran in my stock '97 A4 was 14.2 (2600ft elevation). I have seen plenty in the mid 13's, though. My personal experience against LT4's is that they at least hold their own and often beat the LS1's at the strip.
