Its a code 32, I replaced the egr temperature switch. I am still getting a Service Engine Soon light after I travel about 10 miles on the highway. It seems when the car gets warm, the light will come on. When the car cools and you start it up the light is off. What's the next step? Could I have a bad Egr temp sender switch? Let me know what process of elimination I should take. Trying to fix the less costly stuff first.

You could just ignore it ya know, it does nothing.

Sometimes the 32 can be the solenoid/switch, clogged up pipe, or something as simple as a non-tightened gas cap.

Thanks Vader. I am trying my best to ignore the thing. The car runs great, and like you said this code is a nuisance. This could be like finding a needle in a haystack. I read all the posts on this, and your right, I may have to live with it.

I had the same problem with my 85. Only went on when cruisin at high speed for a long period of time with A/C on and high outside temps? Try to pin that one down:eek It stopped when I brought the running temps down using a 70/30 mix.:eek I'm still trying to figure that one out.:L

Yarls24! I had a service engine soon light on my 88 rag same as you have described. The cure was to remove the battery through the body cover behind the drivers side front wheel (easy), remove the battery and replace the two Mass Air Flow sensor relays mounted on the firewall behind the battery. This ensures the MAF is burning off after shut-off. A quick, cheap fix at about $30US and should be done periodically anyways. Mine were original parts at 60,000 miles! RJS:beer

This is not the same problem, just because you both have an SES doesnt mean its the same code. You likely had a Code 33 or 34.

Code 32 is unrelated.

Yes, mine was a 34 but symtoms were almost identical. Just suggesting it as a preventative measure as well as a potential fix. Does a code 32 not indicate on the computer code reader a specific problem? RJS:confused

Thanks RJS Rocket,Vader 86, and C4ever. I will use all the knowledge you have provided to solve this problem. I greatly appreciate everyone who has responded. When I take my battery out next time , I definitely will change those two MAF sensors as a precautionary measure. I am determined to end this problem, that Light drives me crazy when I drive. I am getting help from the C4C5specialist also. My thanks go out to him as well. This forum is the very best when it comes to problem solving, not to mention saving me some money by diagnosing the problem properly. I will let everyone know when I get this problem fixed for good. Also check the vacuum lines from the plenum to the EGR valve, the EGR solenoid. That cured my code 32....

Thanks Eagle. I checked those too. I hope I didn't miss anything. I will drive it today to work and see what happens. I took it out yesterday, after resetting the computer. I forgot to reset it after I put in the EGR temp switch. I went about 15 miles and no light. We will see today.

No vacuum to egr valve

Yesterday I checked to see if I was getting any vacuum from the hose that connects to the egr valve itself. There was no vacuum whatsoever coming from this line. We disconnected the hose, rev'd the engine slightly when in drive. The car was hot, no vacuum at all. Could my egr solenoid be the culprit? If so, do you just undo the bolt on the thermostat housing to get it off? There is a bracket that holds it on there. Also, will I need to get some new vacuum lines as well if this is the problem? That light went on yesterday after 15 miles of highway driving again. Let me know what you guys think. Thanks...
