Welcome to CAC.

All you have to do is find the wire harness kit that suits your budget, and install it with the TPI intake just like you would on a street rod. Many companies sell TPI wire harness, from www.tpis.com painless wiring (can be purchased through Summit), Street and Performance, etc. etc.

You end up purging the part of the harness that you no longer need, and over laying the new harness as well as replacing the computer with a suitable match for the TPI system.

This gets covered often on the Forums as far as TPI swaps into all different models of older vettes. It can get pricey by the time you rebuild a stock system, buy all the sensors, etc. There are complete stand alone aftermarket systems. A complete aftermarket system will cost you from $2 to $3,000 for a intake, injectors, harness, computer, high volume fuel pump, sensors, and programming info for tuning the computer.

First determine your performance desires, then look at your budget, then give us a better idea what you are after and we may be able to give better suggestions.

Just for a quick example, you might be able to buy a complete used LT1 motor from a 94-up F body, or 92 up Corvette, aftermarket harness, and computer for less than just the aftermarket intake to use on your 84 engine. How cool would that be to simply drop in a complete aluminum headed, reverse flow, etc, LT1 in place of the Xfire????

So what you are saying that i be able to go to the auto wreackers and bye the wire harness and injectors and every thing else that i would need to change it over to TPI. Do you have to find some one that specialises in wireing the make this work or is it that easy.

To change to TPI get yourself a 86-89 GM SHop manual along with the one for an 84..

Compare the wirig for the enigine harness which passes through the firewall in 2 locations.. My guess is if you got a OEM harnes from an 86-89 it would connect in without much trouble

Reason I don't suggest the 85 is due to the burn off Module neded for the MAF

it should..

I also agree with JonM check hood clearance.. I don't think the TPI will fit with the 84 hood

The hood will not be a problem because i am going to do some mods on my hood(rise it)

What do you really expect to gain with the TPI "upgrade"?

There are some XFI mods you may be quite surprised
to learn about. Try:

all Crossfire types.

Having just finished this project, after three years and thousands of dollars, I pass on what I ws told and refused to do. My car was cherry and the suspension was just as I liked, so I pushed ahead. Yikes! Did I ever learn! (and spend and spend)

You want TPI? Buy an '86 or later.

Expect to change everything in the system, from the fuel pump forward, including the rubber hose junctions in the fuel system, the fuel filter; the fuel lines to the engine. This involves so much more than I will go into here; unseen from the onset. Few shops anywhere in the US were willing to tackle the project and the (Summit) book I got about the job was of no value.

I did most of the work; estimated at about $10k in value, if done by a shop. My results are finally gratifying, but I have further concerns about reliability and driveline longevity. My spreadsheet shows $17k for parts, used parts where it makes sense, including $4600 for the new 406. I run a cone filter as the TPI air intake does not allow the stock hood to close.

I was told that the TBI units can be run quite well on an aftermarket manifold, but cannot recall who makes it.

This is NOT a simple or inexpensive project, at ALL!
