I know this is a basic question, but where exactly do you grease a '74? I know, I should have a shop manual!!!

Lubrication points uaually are the 4 ball joints(upper & lower), 4 tie rod ends, maybe on the clutch cross shaft, maybe the u-joints on the drive shaft & u-joints on the half-shafts.
also check transmission fluid, rear end fluid.

don't forget idler arm and the connection on the steering power ram

The connection on the steering control valve is a hot topic. Some say NEVER lube that, that it was there for original assy. Makes me wonder. My Delco replacement does not have the fitting. So, if it is there, it would seem you lube it. But I can tell you from experience with a previous one, if you do lube, be VERY careful and barely put anything in. You will blow the seal and have a leaking valve and have to replace it.

Exactly. That's why new ones and rebuilt ones either don't have the fitting at all (usually have a plug instead) or come with a card that says the warranty is void if the fitting is lubed.

Voice of experience - DO NOT GREASE THE CONTROL VALVE!!! I just had to replaced mine.

I have to agree: DO NOT LUBE THE CV.
I did and ruined mine.
