I just changed the throttle body sensor in the Carburetor and the O2 Sensor.
The check engine light still comes on and off at irregular intervals. Any other suggestions is greatly appreciated. I have a 81 with 41,000 miles . Thanks, rollsman

Check around your fuel pump.
Its on the passenger side of the block
Mine was leaking slightly around the rubber diaphram
once I replaced it my check engine light never came back on.
I believe it could cause the computer to use wrong mixture and
thus giving a code
Without checkin the code its a needle in a haystack search
as there are about 25 codes or more I believe

Check the condition of all wires going to the sensors you replaced in addition to the mixture control solonoid and coolant temp sensor. I'll bet you'll find your problem somewhere in these parameters.

Good Luck.. Dave

Check Engine Light ... Still Comes On HELP!!!

Dave, thanks for help. I will have to check these connections and see what happens. I am not sure where the mix control solonoid is or the coolant temp. sensor is. I will look in the manual. Any help in finding these is greatly appreciated. The codes I get are 12 all the time, this means the ecm is ok. I dont get any other codes. i was thinking of disconnecting the battery and see what happens. Please advise and thank you, rollsman

My son had a jeep wrangler that the check engine light would come on and stay on through about 3/4 tank of gas, go off and two or three fillups later do the smaething again. It turned out to be contamenants in the gas and gas tank that were clogging up the sensors. It may be where you are getting gas from. Try a different source and see if that helps.

The coolant temp sensor is located in the front portion of the intake manifold.

The mixture control solonoid is located on the top of the carburetor.

Hey guys, I disconnected my computer when I changed out the motor to a new crate, bypassed the distributer by using a vacuum advance, etc., and now the "check engine" light stays on. Is there a way to disconnect the bulb without going into the gauge cluster from behind the dash? Looking for a simple way to stop the bulb from burning without tearing down the center console. Thanks.

By sensor in the throttle body do you mean Throttle Position Sensor? If so did you readjust the zero when you installed it?

If I am not mistaken, I remember being able to get my arm up around the bulb area...I am very familiar with the back of the speedo/tach cluster though..think the bulb housing can be reached and taken out with having to remove the entire cluster...good luck! Joe!
