:ohnoesWould appreciate all of the help we can get. Our 1989 C4 Vette has chime alarms that keep ringing. The car is has no keys in ignition, all doors are shut, windows up and garaged. It still does it. We have replace the little batteries in the alarm remote, have reset the main battery through the ignition, we thought successfully but perhaps we are doing it wrong. We did replace the main car battery a few months back. Anyway it drives us crazy. Can anyone tell us how to stop it or how to reset these chimes so they stop ringing?

;help
Hatch open?
:)
No everything shut including windows. Thinking maybe something wrong with the security alarm as the chimes sometimes go if we walk into the garage and go off when we walk out. Anyway it is queer. They are more likely to go after a hot day. Tonight we are giving it a go setting the alarm while the car is in the garage and hope that the cat does not set it off 'cause if it does it will be enough to wake the dead as well as us.

;help Anyone know how to stop the chimes going off in a C4 1989 Vette?

When ours is garaged, doors, boot and windows shut, and key out of ignition, the chimes go on intermittently for no reason. We have put new batteries in the security remote. We have reset everything we think by disconnecting the main battery and then reconnecting it when the key is in the on position and then starting the car to reset the computer. Tonight we have locked the car and set the alarm to see if that works. Hopefully the cat will not set the alarm off in the middle of the night, 'cause that will be enough to wake the dead as well as us. Anyway these chimes are driving us crazy. We have noticed that sometimes it is worse after a hot day, and sometimes the chimes start just on walking into the garage and stop when we go out. Funny thing is the chimes do not seem to go off when the car is parked outside. Wonder if the computer in the garage door opener in roof sets it off or something.

Who knows. Does anyone else have this problem?

Check the operation of the door switches, common for them to fail and cause such issues. If your 89 has a remote, the alarm is not factory, check with the manufacturer of the system for the wiring diagram.

Well leaving the alarm all set in the garage on overnight didn't work so we will now check out your ideas toptechx6. Thanks for that. Appreciate your help.

Since the alarm is most likely not factory, it could have a motion sensor that is tripping when your cat walks next to your vette. ;shrug

:chuckleThanks for all of your help guys. Finally found the answer we think. Probably associated with both the door and the alarm. There is a little trigger thing on the inside of the door and car frame which pushes in when the door shuts. Probably the same piece of spring loaded equipment activates the roof lights in modern day cars when the doors are opened at night. Anyway that is all it was and because outside the car is parked on a slope it still worked. Well all we had to do was push it in and out a few times and put a little lubricant on the outside of it and, hey presto, no more chimes. Yahoo. Thank you all so much for your help. This answer is a good one to keep in the back of your mind for future problems, on other models and other makes of car as well.:w
