Just wanted to find out what's better for the car (87 vette)?
I am wanting to put a chip in for better performance but am trying to see are chips like this
http://www.superchips.com/html/products/gm/Corvette/Corvette8793.htm
worth getting? Or should I have someone custom burn one?
The car is stock except for true duals, removed cats, and magnaflows all going in this week. I plan for additional mods in the future.
I guess it really comes down to: should I get this now or have one custom made, but once I have additional mods added will I need a new chip?
Or is a chip not even worth it?
appreciate any info

It really depends on the mods. Exhaust mods don't have as much of an effect on the ECU as intake mods do. If your not changing intakes and not opening the engine, the stock chip will do. If you plan on modding the intake in the near future, wait until the mods are done and have someone custom burn a chip for your car.

My advice is to burn the chip last. (I thought I did that but it seems "last" never comes) That way you won't end up having to buy two chips like some of us have ;)

There are a lot of places to get your chip from. I had mine burnt by Ed Wright at www.fastchip.com . I've also heard very good things about the chips burnt by one of our members. If he still does it I'm sure he will chime in.
I'd stay away from Hypertech, Superchip etc. (I've been told that all Hypertech does is make the fans come on at a lower temp)

Hey Blackroxi, you're pretty much doing what I plan on doing this spring. Let me know how you like the sound and if you feel any seat of the pants improvement over stock. Are you having your duals custom made? What size pipes did you decide to go with?

I know it may not be what you wish to hear, but your changes are mostly about sound, with little impact on what the ECM 'sees'. It has a learning capability and a fair amount of authority to change the fuel and timing settings, which your mods should be within. Good headers will cause the cylinders to run leaner, due to scavenging, which the ECM should be able to compensate for.

The only true way to know how far your ECM is stretched is to pull, from the chip, these adjustments in fuel trim. You can get hints from the richness, or not, of the exhaust.
Many mail order chips only change the full throttle settings; some require premium fuel for added ignition advance.

can't wait for the true duals! AdvancedAutoCC on the forum is doing the work on friday. I basically left it up to him based on what he thinks is right for the car. Honestly I don't remember what we decided on for pipe size. On friday when I drop the vehicle we are going to go back over it. But Either way, I can't wait!

As far as the chip, I think I might hold off for now and wait until someone on the site offers their service for a custom chip. Any takers?
