Well it's that time...Rats..!!!!!!

My No Chargey Light came on to day while cruzen around. Measured the voltage at the battery with the motor running and she says 11.5 Volts. It's the same as the dash voltage indicator. So it looks like it's time for a new one.

Who's got the best price for an 86 Chrome Alternator? I hate going thru all of those dam vette catologs comparing prices.!!

Any one know of a supplier other then the standard soy bean ink color catolog guys that has a better price?

Thanks:beer

Chromed ones are a bit pricier, the Pep Boys in Howell used to get stuff for me on a fairly reasonable basis.

There is also a NAPA in Forked River, but that would be special order.

Check on line at Mid-America, JCWhitney, Autozone, etc...

Why don't you just have yours rebuilt? The case hasn't worn out, but new bearings, brushes and regulator should do get it back up; for less than a 'new' one.

Just ensure that you go to a quality rebuilder, who will do ALL of the guts, not just the brushes or regulator. Then, she's good as new!

You can get the case powder coated any color. Actually I saw chrome ones in Ecklers for a bloody fortune.

Well here's the deal with that.... The 86 Altenator is the step child of the vette Alternator family. They do not come apart easily like the other GM Corvette Version's.

And I am at a point in my life where I'd rater throw money at the problem and just replace it rather then spend time on a beauitiful Corvette driving day then rebuilding an Alternator. Some of these soy bean oil Corvette color catalog suppliers are professional Rape artist's when it comes to pricing.

All I want is to find a nice reasonable price for a Chrome Alternator and not be bent over the fendor.

Amen to that! Problem is getting the right alternator to fit. You may get lucky and get the right one the first time, but such has not been my experience.

OR, pay the man with the flashy catalog.
