I just want to take the time to point out that I am no expert when it comes to wheels and what can be done to them and with them... My dad has a 2001 White Convert and hes got the Polished Rims.. hes been looking at getting the same rim but wants them chrome... Anyone got some links to a place that has NICE ones?
:pat

One small warning about chrome rims. A common problem is the outside looks great but where the tire bead contacts the rim is usually where the chrome stops and over time starts to seperate from the rim (gets flaky), and the tire developes a slow leak. I have had 3 out of 4 rims do this. The tire shop had to put a sealant around the bead area on the rim to stop it from leaking. Just a warning....

Just my .02:Steer :v

Cruzer82,

So, you are saying the chrome rims have a flaw?:eek I am planning to turn my 02 Vert into a 04 Coupe and it was suggested that I should purchase chrome rims instead of the highly polished aluminium rims. I will keep the regular highly polished rims and leave the chrome alone.:cool

I don't want to say that all chrome rims are bad, I am only saying to check carefully how the wheels were chromed or better yet, the quality of the chrome. The area to inspect carefully is where the tire bead contacts the rim. If that is where the chromed area appears to end the tire will have a slow loss of pressure because the chrome in the bead area will flake and separate from the rim in a matter of months.
Like I said, not all rims will do this like on mine only 3 out of 4 leaked.

I hope this helps.......:Steer :v

Cruzer82,

Thanks! This does help.:w

luv em

I did a chrome exchange with a company in Cali and I was very pleased. With shipping(both ways) and the chrome it ran only $950.00. They sent the new rims with new air pressure sensors and new tires out to me(already balanced) and I sent the old ones back to them with the old sensors and tires on. I was very happy with workmanship. I would reccomend this company to anyone. I went with them and not someone in Wisconsin is because a friend told me that the old way of chroming was better than the environmentally safe procedure they use todayi the midwest. Any questions please email me at smokeater@tds.net. The name of the place is Wheel Comcepts Incorporated, and can be found on the net...Dave :beer
