I'm in the process of replacing the peeling center console/radio plastic and can't seem to dislodge the cigarette lighter casing that is connected to the plastic behind the cup holders. Any tricks to this? I've hesitated using any real force, but I can't get it to budge. :confused

If it has a chrome trim on it I believe that is screwed on holding it in.
:w

You might have to get to the back side and turn the lighter to break it lose.

No screws on either end. Basically I've taken off the entire center console plastic (cup holders, area around shifter, etc.) and I just have this chrome-ish cigarette lighter housing that won't go either way. It looks like it wants to come apart, but there isn't much to grip onto and it doesn't show any signs of breaking loose.

Since this console piece is pretty much toast, I may just force it through the plastic and take it from there before I figure out how to stick it in the new one.

I am not sure you understood. The crome piece turns onto the lighter , if you look closely inside the lighter you might see the shape of threads.
:w

I could see the threads inside the piece left behind, but I ended up getting the piece to separate by using a screwdriver and hammer :bash By gently tapping it apart, I was able to remove it and put it back on the new console without too much difficulty. It appears the piece you would see inside the car (where you put the lighter/plug/etc.) was held to the backing piece by two tabs. I think it still would have required some help, but it looks like you could have pulled in those two tabs to get it to come apart, although being such a tight space it didn't seem very easy. Nevertheless, it's apart!

Thanks to everyone for their help! :beer
