Does anyone have any info on this block code from 1971, It was a change over 1/2 way thru the year from the cgt engine code. I have mixed information. It is listed as a 350/270hp AT and I also find it as a 350/330hp AT. My car has this code and I have always wondered about it. The car does have solid lifters, and a winters Intake and I do not know if they were added or they are original. I was assuming they were added. Was this block used because they ran out of the CGT block amd used the Lt1 block.

Thanks,
Jerry

Jerry,

By all accounts, the CJK was only actually used for the L-48 with TH-400 - hydraulic lifters, Q-jet, auto trans, 2-bolt main. Chevrolet goofed on this one early on by listing the CJK in a parts book as the 330 hp engine. As for the CGT, none has ever actually been documented and the earliest CJK code reported is in a car built in the first few weeks of 71 production. THe fact that the CJK code was for autos also makes me doubt that any could ever have possibly ended up in an LT-1.

It's most likely that any LT-1 type hardware on your car was added later as you suspect. Do you know if the build sheet is still on the gas tank?

Thank you for the information, I am trying to get my hand on top of the tank but I can only get my fingertips up there to check for the tank sticker, wish there was an easier way. I had a feeling the cam an other items were added later but someone e-mailed me and told me the CJK was a rare short block LT-1 and I should keep the car.

Thanks,
Jerry

CGT is listed by NCRS as a legitimate L-48/THM code for early '71 cars, replaced as a running change during the year by CJK. The LT-1 was a CGZ (the CGY code for LT-1 was only used on the ZR-1, due to transistor ignition, and only 20 of those were built). CKY was the (Federal) LT-1 code in 1972.
