Paint is almost a requirement after cleaning with acid. The acid will open up the surface of the concrete and make it even harder to clean the next time.
I put off painting my floor for several years, but finally got around to doing it and would never have a floor that was not epoxy ocated again! It makes it a lot more fun working in the shop. I would spend the extra money and get a good commercial grade epoxy floor paint. I have had several friends who took the cheap way out an put down the home center garage floor paint, and every one of them is having problems with the paint lifting from hot tires.
Here is a pic of my shop after painting. I used Sherwin Williams Armour shield 1000 solvent based epoxy floor coating, and I am tickled with it!
