Hi all,
I just finished wet sanding my 84 stock rims. I started with 200 and finished with 1200 grit. I don't see myself getting them any smoother.

It's time to clear coat. I will remove the Mother's polish, (I wanted to see the final result). What do I buy? I understand you must clear coat the rims so they don't oxidize.

I sprayed mine with clear engine paint--it seems to hold up well over the last 6 months. I have Centerline Champ 500's and they're a pita to polish--so I took a chance.

Um I am not sure about that. My brother has unclear coated rims and they have not oxidized, or at least that I know about. I definetly know that Mad-Mic is running unclear coated rims, all he does from what I understand is just polish them from time to time using Wenol, or you could use Wizards Metal Renew which works well.

I moved this thread; it's more of a Care & Detailing question. :CAC

I used to use Mothers but the gentleman who polished my wheels told me to use regular car wax(without teflon).I'm guessing he knows what he is talking about since polishing is his trade.......I just had mine re-polished after 6 years....they were getting too dull...has anyone tried to use car wax? :confused

On my 1980, I actually stripped off the factory clear coating. I didn't re-clear them either. I just kept a good coat of Mothers polish on them and they didn't pit. Also, the car was kept in a garage too. I would imagine that if the cars was sitting outside all year, you'd get pitting.

Invincablevette : I use Meguirs NXT on my C5 wheels. Stuff works great. Just don't use a petroleum base product.
