Well, as some of you may have read in my other posts, I finally got the new studs in and everything back together after my wheel almost fell off.

Anyhow, everythings fine except something is making a clicking noise when I drive. It is in sync with how fast I go, meaning it increases the ticking sound as the wheel spins faster.

I had the wheel off again today, and I think that it is being caused by the back of the wheel studs grazing the shoe retainer springs. Could they possibly have expanded, or have I missed something?

Any help is greatly appreciated as always!

Thanks!

- Jeremy

Hmmm...well, I can hear the sound with the wheel off, just spinning the rotor by hand. I'm not sure what the E-Brake cable retaining clip is. Anything having to do with the E-Brake cable seems far outta the way.

The only thing with the E-Brake cable, is that it seems to not go back fully once the E-Brake is let go. I don't know if some of my springs are worn or what. But, the last time I put the wheel back on, I made sure that it was in the fully out position, and I still heard the noise!

Well if you hear the sound with the whell off then its interinal check the placement of the parking/E brake you very well could be rubbing on a new studd.

I have this same problem on my 74. I found that it was one of the push springs on the rear parking/e-brake shoe assembly. (not sure which the shoes are for, any help ;help) I don't know what to do to eliminate it. I've just been putting up with it. Any suggestions would be helpful.

I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. I FOUND THAT THE STUDS WERE HITTING THE NEW EBRAKE HARDWARE THAT I HAD JUST INSTALLED. SPECIFICALLY THE HOLDDOWN SPRING RETAINERS. I HAD TO REMOVE THE RETAINERS (AGAIN) AND FLATTEN THEM SLIGHTLY. AFTER THAT I HAD TO DRILL OUT THE CENTER OF THE CAPS TO ALLOW THEM TO FIT OVER THE HOLDDOWN SPRING STUDS. AFTER REINSTALLING THEM THE HEIGHT OF THE HOLDDOWN SPRINGS WAS SMALLER AND THE WHEEL STUDS NO LONGER RUBBED THEM. PITA BUT IT WORKED.

Yes Brusso...that is my exact problem. I couldn't take anymore of those ebrakes at the time and have just been dealing with it. I will try and take em off again and do what you were saying. What a PITA!!! I don't understand why you had to drill out the center of the caps?

clicking reaer end

AFTER FLATTENING THE CAP, THE SLOT CLOSES UP SLIGHTLY AND MAKES IT IMPOSSIBLE TO GET THEM TO SLIDE OVER HOLDDOWN STUDS

clicking rear end

ANOTHER OPTION WOULD BE TO PLACE A THIN WASHER BEHIND THE BACKING PLATE AND INSERT THE HOLDDOWN STUDS THROUGH THEM. TO DO THIS TO THE REAR HOLDOWN STUD YOU HAVE TO REMOVE THE BACKING PLATE. MY 75'S BACKING PLATES DIDN'T WANT TO COME OFF. YOURS MAY BE IN BETTER CONDITION?

Brusso,

Please unlock your CAPS LOCK KEY. Typing in all caps, indicates shouting and anger. Thank you.

clicking noise left rear

I just had a very late after thought. Being that my 75 is my first vette, I let the rear suspension hang while spinning the wheels. WRONG!!! The u-joints rub behind the trailing arm when the suspension is allowed to hang freely. So I put the car up on six jack stands. two in the front (frame) and two just in front of the trailing arms (frame) and then two under the rear shock mount. The two under the shock mounts were used to lift the suspension close to normal height still keeping most of the weight on the two in front of the trailing arms (frame). This may be common knowledge, but like I said I'm new at this Vette stuff.
