I have a 1994 LT1 and the climate control locks up after about 15 seconds. Before it locks up the buttons work and I can hear what I believe is the changing of the vacuum from under the dash right above the throttle pedal. I then hear what sounds like a motor hum and that's when it locks up. It will only blow air out of the floor vents regards of what LED is lit on the control panel. Anyone have or know of this problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Covette Air Conditioning

I have been researching why the air conditioning in my 1996 with the C-68 electronic type control blows air out the floor vents and defroster vents. From what I understand about my problem is a vacuum problem connection on the controller module where all the vacuum hoses for the air conditioning/heater (HVAC)system connect. I have read that on the 1996 Corvette a new system was used which was inferior to earlier models in that the 1996 has a problem of the where the vacuum hoses attach, there is a collapse of the attachment nipple with the vacuum hoses preventing vacuum operation. This is what I understand anyway.
The last 4 times I have driven my 1996 on trips, the air conditioning would start out leaving home blowing out of the defroster and floor ducts, but after about 15-20 minutes would change to the dash vents and remain this way until I turned the car off.

I have also read about the controller module going bad and the not responding to the different selections from the dash. There is a procedure in my 1996 Corvette service manual that in using the dash unit that you can receive codes in checking the system. My use of this procedure on my 1996 resulted in no codes stored.

I have also read about a vacuum check valve failure. The vacuum check valve is located on the passenger side of the engine and located under the cover on the engine that goes over the valve cover and engine. The check valve will have three vacuum hoses attached to it. A failure of the check valve will not allow the cruise control to function. My cruise control on my 1996 works great. Although I bought a new check valve I have not attempted to replace it with my 96's cruise control still working. I did buy a new check valve at Advance Auto for less than $5.00.

I know the 93 is a little earlier version but mine would lock up as well and the buttons just wouldn't work. This probably happened when the car was about 7 or 8 years old. Anyway, I took the controller out of the car and took it apart on the bench. Cleaned the contact area (buttons making contact with a carbon like film) from what I can remember with alcohol and q-tip. Working fine ever since then for a lot of years now. I don't know if that's the issue with yours but I would certainly get that part out of the way. It comes out of the dash fairly easily and comes apart easily as well. While your doing this would be a good time to check vacuum lines if that's what your car has as that could be directly related to the door operation problem. Thought this might be of some help as I did get the info on this forum.
