Clunk in the front

Our left side front transverse spring makes a clunk upon hitting dips or bumps. The noise is definitely from the portion that bolts underneath the front frame of the car. We jacked the car up and pushed it up and down to finally determine the location of this "clunk". What does this mean? Is this bad? Is something breaking? Its not the control arm bushings or anything - it is definitely coming from the transverse spring. Any suggestions? Should we be worried? HELP!!!:eek ;shrug

Ok ya'll - where are those awesome experts out there? No advise on the "clunk in the front"? Someone must have some idea!! ;shrug

Did you ever fix your "clunk"???? I have a "clunk" too. I really think it is the transverse spring in front.

Won't anyone help this great looking girl??? and ugly ol' me???

Robert

Actually it was worn out (or better yet non existant) control arm bushings thanks to a leaky powersteering unit I neglected for far too long... rotted them away!
Thanks for the compliment too!

OK....well, I will crawl under and take a good look. I am thinking it is the transverse spring. I did a search on transverse spring and your post came up.

When I am driving there is a popping noise. When I jack up the front there is a popping noise until the tires clear the ground. When I let it down there is a popping/squeaking noise until it settles into posistion.

Thanks for the reply....and you are most welcome!

Robert,

I agree with your comments for Dawn, she is a great looking lady - she is actually the greatest looking girl here. You probably missed some of her previous avatars in the CAC forums, they are absolutely breath taking ;).

And for the "clunk" - being an engineer I know such annoying noise is almost always generated by a missing circular part such as a bushing. The "clunk" is intermittent in nature since the bushing is not carrying load the whole time. When the car moves up and down, such as in a bump, what ever goes through the bushing (most often a pin) will move inside a cavity and since there is no bushing there it will hit the internal diameter of a metal diameter.

As for the "hissing" noise from a roller bearing - such noise is mostly continuous because the bearing is turning the whole time and a damaged ball causes the continous hiss.

Any other questions???

Thanks for the info....I really think it is the transverse spring. I am going to the dealer tomorrow and will check what options I have. Probably replace the spring.

Yes, Dawn is quite stunning. I have only seen 3 or 4 avatars. She is photogenic to say the least.

And so intelligent......the perfect woman......(sigh).
