I'm getting ready to replace my clutch master and slave cylinders on my 94 coupe. I have done a little research, including reading all the material from ZF doc. My question...what is the best brand of parts to buy? I have heard all kinds of stories, about certain brands having the seals installed upside down....other brands that failed after only a short time in service

Also the price of these parts is all over the map. NAPA wants $67.49 for the master...and $ 92.49 for the slave. Corvette Central shows two master cylinders...one is a cast replacement for $74.95 and the other is a Delco stamped steel...for $123. J & D Corvette wants $140 for the master....$160 for the slave. So...I'm really don't know what to do.

Doesn't anyone have any comments, suggestions...recommendations or personal experience with any of these brands ?? :) Thanks

Extra information

I might add...I am looking more for quality, rather then lowest cost. I only want to do this job...ONCE...no since spending all that time and effort and have some crappy parts cause you to have to do the job again. :confused

I bought one at a local parts store almost two yrs ago. It was a Wagner. still works good.
I haven't heard anything about bad ones in almost two yrs now, they may be out of the system.;shrug

I've noticed over the years that quality and price do not always have a 1:1 relationship- where for every dollar spent the quality rises some incremental amount.

My advice is to shop around. "Deals" vary in terms of $$$. ;squint:

We have a LOT of great vendors here at the CAC. You may have even seen them listed on the side of the fourms. Check them out and mention you saw them on the Corvette Action Center.

Outside of our vendors- here are a few I've dealt with other the years. If you want OEM replacement, you could also contact-
GM Parts - Genuine Replacement - Buy-OEM-Parts.com (Crown Chevrolet)
PACE Performance - GM Parts, Crate Engines, and Aftermarket Accessories (Pace)
Scoggin Dickey Parts Center: GM Performance Parts, GM Crate Engines, GM Goodwrench Crate Motors and Performance Crate Engines (Scoggin-Dickey)

These are dealerships- but since they move so many parts online- they usually have deep discounts. GM usually sells parts at a lower price to the dealers who deal in huge volumes.

Personal story- years ago, Crown was able to get the climate control dash unit for my C5 for <$500. List price was well over $1,000. I have bought a lot of GM parts through them and have ALWAYS been satisfied.

Hope that helps!

I've replaced them twice. The first time with pulled (extruded) cylinders; lasted 10K mi. -Master leaked thru the actuator into the cockpit. This time went with Delco master and Wagoner slave (no Delco slave available). These are cast cylinders; take up a smidge more room but, hopefully, more robust. After having 2 extruded clutch masters piss all over the inside of the firewall, I'll go with GM or Delco for as long as I can get 'em!!

I replaced both of mine from Advance Auto Parts, they have a different store name up North but I forgot what they are called. Anyways, I have 50,000 miles on them Lifetime warranty.
