Hello Everyone!

Well to sum it up I am about to go insane!

When I drive my 89 Vette on the high way for about 40 miles, the service engine light comes one( code 32) If i keep driving another 40 miles the light goes off. (there is no change in engine performance) If i drive 40 miles in stop and go traffic...no light comes on........STRANGE!

The odd time I will drive 40 miles on the high- way and the light will not come on...usually in mild tempatures 60-70 F

Well....I have changes the EGR, the EGR temp sensor, the EGR solnoid, and the rubber hoses and the ECM.

All this and I still have this problem......

Can anyone please save my sanity?

Thank-you in advance

Willycool,
I've been pulling 32 for years but in my case only when 95deg cruisin at about 80 for an extended period and only when running the A/C. If all three criteria aren't met, no 32. Go Figure.:confused
I live with it. And yes, I did replace the EGR about a year ago. Switch and solonoid are both OK. Just wasted my money.
If you find the answer please let us know.
Sorry I couldn't provide an answer.

I also have this exact problem. It actually started when I took the car on it's first long highway trip to Carlisle in August. It seems to come on after about 60-80 miles of highway cruising at 75-80mph. I think my AC was on all the time because it was pretty darn hot that week! The SES light stays on until I shut the car off which resets it. (It says in memory as a stored code.)

If you guys figure it out please let me know!! I haven't started replacing anything yet because I wasn't too sure where to start. Maybe what we are seeing is a symptom and not root cause? Perhaps there is something indirectly related to EGR that's actually tripping the code? Just a thought. I planned to run through the diagnostic procedure in the Service Manual when I get around to it.

Just did a search on "code 32"

There are a bunch of posts and possible solutions. It seems to be most common to throw it on the highway when it's hot and the AC is on for some reason.

This seemed to be one of the better suggestions -

"The most common cause of 32 is the switch that is on the pipe connecting the exhaust to intake. This is on the passenger side rear of engine near the distributor. The switch makes contact when the pipe is hot.

The solenoid that has two vacuum lines to it is actually a electric to vacuum module. Once triggered electrically it provides vacuum to the EGR valve. This solenoid is underneath the plenum on the drivers side, just behind the throttle body.

Yes, if an error code does not continue to be trapped over and over, the Service Engine light will go out, but any code trapped will remain in memory to be read until cleared."

90Callaway,
I went though the switch and solonoid diag. No change. I have to believe a design flaw or a way for the GM dealer to make some bucks.
But I still love my vette;)

code 32 Egr

Hummmmmmmmmmmm

Seems like a lot of people are having the same problem.... Is there a service Buil. from GM?

The Ecm collects infromation from the Collant temp sensor, MAF, TPS and the MAT.

It could be one of these sensors........

Well its a start!

Perhaps with a combined effort we can all rid ourselves of the 32 forever

Please keep in touch
