Check engine light came on yesterday, so I hooked the scanner up to it today, got a code 72 which the book said something about it being the gear select switch or vehicle speed sensor. Can anyone help me out here, what would be the possible reasons for this and how can it be fixed?

I also got a code 13 so I'm going to try to replace my o2 sensor and see if that corrects that problem.

Thanks in advance!!! :upthumbs

My manual for the '87 MY, shows Code 24 as the vehicle speed sensor circuit trouble code. Therefore, I probably will be of no help to you, but here is the test description for mine:

1. Code 24 will be set if:
  • CKT 437 voltage is constant.
  • Engine speed between 900 and 4400 rpm.
  • Closed throttle.
  • Low load condition (low air flow).
  • Not in park or neutral.
  • All conditions must be met for 2 seconds.
These conditions are met during a road load deceleration.

2. A voltage of less than 1 volt at the 6-way connector indicates that the CKT 437 wire may be shorted to ground.

How would the different year 'vette's have different code numbers? I thought it was all obd I GM???:confused

Does anyone have any recomendations on how to correct this problem?:confused
