How do I clear codes from the computer on a 1985? I have a code 33 showing, so I replace the MAF, the car is running MUCH better, but the code is still showing. I pulled codes again and its the same code 33. How do I clear them to get rid of the CHECK ENGINE light?

Thanks

Unless you can use a scan tool, you can remove the ECM fuse with the key off for a minute. Keep in mind that if you remove the fuse, the car may idle funny for a while until it relearns itself. On the other hand, you may notice no difference at all. Just keep that in mind, and that you didn't do something wrong.

The methods to clear codes were covered in the thread's second post.

The reason the code might still be there is a problem still exists.

I'd clear codes and road test.

If the light comes on and the code resets then the MAF problem is not solved. I'm not an expert on early L98 but I do know that the MAF relays and the early-type MAF itself can be problematic.

Once you replace the MAF, disconnect the battery for a minute or two.
If the code comes back after you drive it around town awhile, then its the burnoff module that needs replacing.

In 85 the burnoff is buried in the passenger dash.
