Code Question

Do all the codes throw a check engine light or only certain ones. I got a check engine light recently but left it for a few days cause I had just added oil and accidently overfilled it by a pint so i figured this was it. I've now pulled the codes and they all listed H so it seems the issue is gone, Also I reset the codes and the light hasn't reappeared. At any rate here are the codes:

P0171 HC -fuel trim system lean bank 1
P0174 HC -fuel trim system lean bank 2

B2605 H -Front seat position sensor failure

So my two questions are (sorry for the length) would have all three of these thrown the light or only the first two and what caused the first two that is no longer an issue. The only significant car history I have to offer is an hour before it threw the light i over filled the oil like mentioned and the weekend before (it was sunday night when it happened) I went on a long trip to philly and back which included steady high speed driving. Also I filled up before the trip at some random gas station in NJ and have since gotten a new tank at my regualr place. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

I can't help with the fuel trim codes. The check engine light will come on if the DTC affects emissions controls for sure.

However, according to the service manual, the seat position sensor will always show up as an H (history) code even if the problem is current.

Thanks for the help, hopefully someone else can tell me what likely caused the two engine codes as described above. But do you know, am I correct in assuming that the check engine light won't be tripped by the seat sensor code?

The P codes and the B code are unrelated except that they are all history codes, that is they were current at some time in the past but were not at the time you looked at the ECM memory.

The two P codes mean the engine may have been running lean. Sometimes you'll see those very occasionally in cases of bad fuel.

I'd clear codes and continue to drive the car. If they set again, then I'd investigate more using the procedures in the service manual to do so. If they don't reset, fugetaboudit.

I was hoping a tech expert like yourself would come along, thanks for the help Hib. I've since cleared the codes and the check engine light hasn't returned, but for my own education; will all of the codes trip the check engine light or only certain ones. I'm assuming it was the lean conditions that tripped the light and the seat just happened to be there

HI there,
There are a few conditions that could cause the P171,174 codes.
Check to make sure that all your connections in between the MAF sensor and the engine are tight and there are NOT any leaks for air to enter.
Next, make sure that your air cleaner does NOT have anything obstructing it.

You were right. There was a small gap between the tube coming out of the filter (black) and the red silicone piece before the throttle body (I think I'm using all ther terms correctly. I refitted the tube and tightened the hose clamp and haven't had a problem since. Thanks again.

Perhaps I spoke too soon. It seems that the black tube wants to continue to slip out the red silicone tube. In addition the hose clamp, because the red silicone tube is tapered, does not want to stay on and slides off. This leads to the tube popping out and giving me my air leak.

Anybody have any experience with this? The last thing I want is to have to drill something into the silicone to prevent the hose clamp from sliding up and the black tube popping out from the red one.
