Question: Code Read-outs??

Do the "code read-outs" actually reveal the specific—the actual problem
ie: "bad opti", "fuel pump", etc.? Or does it generalize ie: "ignition"
problem, "fuel" system problem, etc.? And then you have to diagnose those broader groups (ignition, fuel, etc.) to determine the specific
problem? Thankyou once again.

It depends on whats wrong. For example, my check engine light came on a few weeks ago, so I purchased a scanner. It said that it was a catalytic efficiency problem. This can mean a few things but I can easily narrow it down to an O2 sensor, or a bad Cat.

Now (nock on wood) lucky for me I earased the code and it has not come up. It could be the cold weather. Anyway....

It depends on what is wrong. Im not an expert, but if there is a sensor on the part that is malfunctioning, it will give you an exact readout, but if it is giving you an error code based on many sensor readings it could be less specific.
