Wreckers and checkers - and Stewart wins

:lou

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - For Tony Stewart, the night time has been the right time at Daytona.

Still without a victory in the Daytona 500, Stewart earned his third victory in the July night race at Daytona International Speedway, holding off Jimmie Johnson and pushing aside Kyle Busch's attempts to block Saturday night to win the Coke Zero 400.

Immediately after the race, Busch got out of his wrecked car and stomped toward Victory Lane. Four NASCAR officials cut Busch off and escorted him into a safety vehicle and took him to the infield care center.

"I don't know if I was real proud of that," Stewart said. "I don't know what else I could have done. I don't like winning like that.

"You are kind of forced in that position. I got to his right-rear tire and he tried to block us.

"We had a good car all day. We weren't going to give it to him. If I did something wrong, I'm sorry, but I don't think I did."

That's the first time in years that I've jumped off the sofa screaming in joy at a stock car race on TV. Rowdy did that to himself! I love it when my least favorite drivers gets taken out by one of my favorites!:thumb

I think the hit he took from #9 was awesome after the initial hit, putting him on the roof.

Daytona deals Busch another tough finish

Kyle Busch walks along pit road moments after his last-lap entanglement with Tony Stewart
in the Coke Zero 400 at Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach, Fla.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Kyle Busch climbed out his trashed Toyota, pulled off his gloves and helmet in disgust and started walking.

A safety crew coaxed him into a pickup truck and drove him to the infield care center, the same place he ended his last Sprint Cup race at Daytona International Speedway.

"I think he's got a little bit of a headache, but hopefully he's going to be OK," car owner Joe Gibbs said.

Busch might have a stomachache, too, if he thinks about his two Cup races at Daytona this season.

With his No. 18 Toyota out front and the checkered flag in sight Saturday night, Busch looked like he might snatch a win from Tony Stewart in the Coke Zero 400.

Instead, Busch ended up in the wall, out of contention and with another trip to the care center. Stewart, meanwhile, won his second race in five weeks and extended his lead in the series standings. Jimmie Johnson was second, followed by Denny Hamlin, Carl Edwards and Kurt Busch.

Kyle Busch finished 14th, sliding across the finish line backward in a mangled car.

"It's a big disappointment," crew chief Steve Addington said. "We sat there, was patient all night long. We were just fine. ...We were in position to go for the win and we end up wrecked. What are you going to say?"

Busch said nothing.

He spent a few minutes inside the care center, blew off reporters and then bolted toward his motorhome on a golf cart.

"It's a tough place to race," Gibbs said.

Busch has learned that the hard way this season. :thumb

I agree 1000%..... Meat-Head has had that type of deal coming to him for a few years, and he can't even realistically 'blame' it on anybody but himself:
I didn't jump as-far off the couch as I did when the Penguins won the Stanley Cup a few weeks ago.....

..... but it was close!!!!!

Final move by Busch was one too many in the end

The first block was legitimate. The second one was, well, a bit too much and ultimately ended in Kyle Busch's spectacular crash at the end of Saturday's race. Joe Menzer wonders if anything will be learned in all the aftermath of the Coke Zero 400.
