Well my motor is almost complete. However today I realized that my original setup has a cold start injector. The new fuel rail, and manifold doesn't have a provision for it. Do I need it? If I dont put it on will the computer screw up, or can I trick it.

Thanks,
Craig

Which manifold did you go with?

I deleted mine with the SR, no problems, just cranks over a few times before it fires up. You don't need it and you can get a good buck for it if ya wanna sell it. Seems like they're not all that available.

I bought the TPIS big mouth manifold. There is a plate in the manifold, and a plug in the fuel rail where the fuel line goes.

Moon, what do I do with the computer?

How does that Big Mouth compare to the stock manifold? I thought the Big Mouth would have the provisions for the cold start injector...

Did you also have the Big Mouth ported?

I have the Bigmouth as well, hogged out and polished with the SR. Depends on your other mods Justin. You're gonna burn a new chip right? I don't think there is any special chip consideration for the 9th injector, and you just tuck that part of the harness away under the plenum.

Hey moon you've got us mixed! That'd be Craig with the motor problems, finally somebody other then me! :L

Just realized that before I reopened the thread, sorry Craig :L

Moon, thats okay I can see how you would mix us up, finally for once I am at the short end of the stick:)

The big mouth is just like the stock manifold, when I said it didn't have the setup, what I really meant was that it has a block off plate that has been installed. It would fit, if I choose to put it on. I do not know if the big mouth was ported when I bought it.

Moon, I would like to get a new chip burned, because I think I am going to eliminate the air pump stuff. I know I already have the block off plate for the EGR tube. What will this do for the car until I can get a new prom burned, any problems? Where can I get a chip burned, and for how much?

I think Ed Wright will custom burn chips, as will TPIS.

Try www.pcmforless.com - heard good things about them. Jeff (-=Jeff=-) is doing mine, and he's good, but it's a hobby so it sometimes takes a while for him to do them.

Jeff set my new chip to flash all 8 injectors on startup, which does work better than the stock chip without CSI. The all-8 approach is apparently what GM did when they dropped the CSI.

I dealt with Bryan Herter at http://www.pcmforless.com

He is great. I had a very fast turn-around time. He reflashed my PCM and I think the whole process took less than 7 days. Including shipping both ways.

My Vette ran like a different car when I reinstalled the PCM. :D

CSI? Crime Scene Investigation?:L:L:L

I agree that Jeff is good at what he does. He only lives an hour away from me. Rich, if you want me to go crack the whip, let me know!:L

Okay guys thanks for all the suggestions. What can they reprogram the chip for. Does the mods to the engine really matter that much, or can they just erase codes, and crap like that? In other words what can be changed with the new program?

CSI = Cold Start Injector. Thought it was obvious :confused or are you just pulling my leg...

Jeff did just send my chip back (arrived today) so the ball's now in my court. I'm not in a huge hurry, so his speed is fine, but for others it may not be. Thanks for the offer, though.

How close to Chicago are you? I'll be out there near the end of September.

Rich,

I was just pulling your leg.:L

What did Jeff do with the chip? Did you run the car with your laptop/diagnostic software and then send the results off to Jeff so he could determine what would be best?

I'm 30 minutes away from Chicago in her southern suburbs.

Jeff first did a SOTP setup based on what mods I had done. Then I used the laptop to get some readings and sent those off. He then re-burned with some changes, and we repeated the process a couple times. It's still not totally right; there's some issue with the overdrive that needs looking at (it goes on and off at specific speeds, regardless of gear, and the button is inoperable) and I need the base idle bumped up. However, I'm also intending to get a PROMinator and use that plus TunerCat to tweak Jeff's settings. He's probably done more work on this one than he expected; I even sent him another $20 for shipping costs because I'm sure he spent more than he wanted to. When I'm done with my tweaks, I'll probably have Jeff burn one final BIN and then use the chip full-time, only going to the PROMinator when I want to tweak or something.

My goal, btw, is to have several settings based on need - one that runs lean for emissions, one that runs rich for the track, and one that's in-between for normal driving. The PROMinator has room for 8 different programs!

So are you around Joliet or something? I'm going to be in Highland Park, about 30 minutes north of the city. Relatives...

[RICHR]

Rich, I'm about 20 miles west of Joliet. Basically, I'm where I57 and I80 intersect. I've been to Highland Park before, it's a very nice area! In fact, first time I went there was to check out a ZR-1 for Sleepyhead. :D
