Cold weather starting problems

My 1993 Corvette will start but not run when the outside air temp drops. To keep the motor running I must feather the gas pedal, but encounter backfire in both the exhaust and engine. When the outside air temp gets warmer the car starts and runs perfect. Any thoughts?

put a digital VOM on the CTS (coolant temp sensor) with the engine cold and then at operating temp...compare the ohms your CTS reads against the FSM (service manual)...common for the CTS to be out of calibration, lies to the ECM and poor starting, lean backfire, many other ills result...the ECM relies very heavily on what the CTS tells it, hardly ever will throw a trouble code if the CTS is out to lunch.

Thanks for quick reply. Will give it a try.
