I just replaced my thermostat and the housing along with both of the radiator hoses. Plus i flushed out the system. Does anyone know why the hoses are collapsing?
Thank you,
Doug

The lower hose should have a spring inside it to prevent collapsing when the engine is at high speed.

If BOTH hoses are collapsing, you may have the wrong radiator cap that is not permitting coolant return after shutdown.

Ok the old lower hose did have a spring in it i will have to get another one. should that fix the problem because the top one collapses too and i didnt change anything about the cap.

New lower hoses nowadays don't have the spring in many instances. I've read that they aren't needed cause materials are better than before. Possibly, but we're just talking rubber hoses and I don't know what technoligy they could have instilled that would make them better. In any event, I just keep switching the spring in the old hose to the new hose.;shrug

After refilling with the proper anti freeze/distilled water percent, you are running to operating temp. (car stationery in driveway) with the radiator cap off to purge the system of air until the thermostat opens (and there are no more bubbles) aren't you?

If the thermostat is installed upside-down, it won't open, and the upper hose will collapse. The thermostat installs with the "pill" end down, in the manifold opening.

Ok ill just take the old spring out for the bottom. As for the leaving the cap off and purging the system, i did not know i had to do that since this is my first time replacing it.
Thanks everyone for the help.
