Finally got recall notice

I finally got the steering lock recall notice for my Z06 today (8/4/04). For all you still waiting..be patient. They will get to you

My GM Owner's Link web account notified me last week. I have an appointment set for Friday to get the work done. I decided I wouldn't wait for the recall notice to reach by mail.

I seem to recall getting one a while back, but I have no idea where I put it. :hb
Do I have to have it to get the work done?

Tammy, in my case, I did not need the mailed recall notice to set an appointment. I just needed the recall number. For the steering column lock, I believe that number was 04006. I would recommend you go to the My GM Link website and set up your own account for notifications unique to your '02 Z06.

You can link to the site HERE. You'll need your VIN to set it up. (Bear in mind that this part of the GM site is apparently not directly affiliated with GM, so they may not have instant access to all VIN's. When I set up my account, I had to actually call them from the number listed on the website to have a live person facilitate getting my VIN from records. Apparently, my VIN wasn't part of their records, so the operator had to manually retrieve it and link it to my account.)

Good luck!

Me to!
I have a few questions:

Has anyone with '04s gotten them?

Where's the best Corvette friendly dealer in Houston to take it?

Has anyone gotten theirs done if so what was your experience like?

Are there any suggestions you might have before I take it in?

Do you really think the Astro's has a shot for the wild card?

I believe '04's are included in the recall. I would recommend you creating an account at the GM Link site I posted a few messages back.

Any Texas members have some insight on this one?

I can let you know Friday, after I have mine done.

Yes- when you set your appointment, make sure the dealer has all seven of the parts necessary in stock. If not, set an appointment for when they will have them all in stock. According to the recall notice, the total work is only supposed to take 20 minutes to 1 hour, 40 minutes, depending on the parts they need for any particular Corvette. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

No. I predict the wild card will be between LA and San Francisco. But that's just me. :L

Recall

For what it is worth I received my recall notice today for the repair of the steering column. Appointment already set up at local dealer. I am the third owner and they found me .

Got the recall letter today!!!!!!!!

And I told them to fix it before but they wouldn't until I had the letter.

Now I do. And they will fix it!!!!!!!!!

Steering Recall

Does this apply to 01 ZO6? And exactly what is the substance of the recall?

Here is a portion of the letter that explains this!

I don't think it applies to the '01 Z06. The letter opens up talking about the 2003's. But here is the letter.

(Oh Mac-I made up this letter. It is pretend. I like to think I own a Z06, HAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAH) :L

Thanks

Thanks for the info. I'm new to the CAC so I'm just poking around and getting aquainted.

Welcome to the CAC!!!!!! You are welcome! How about putting up a pic in the Z06 Spy camera thread in the Z06 General Section. We would love to see it! Especially me, since it is black!!!!! :D

Yeah, the letter is authentic. Inside joke with the Mac thing! Just disregard that part!!!!!!!!

Remember, all, this recall fixes the problem completely only on A4 cars. MN6s will still have the potential to lock up on you as before. On MN6 cars all they are doing is making sure the car will not be driveable should the lock occur (and they adjust the locking mechanism so it "shouldn't occur"). You will still need a CLB to be sure.

Clb????? Survey Says!!!!!!!!!!!

Column Lock Bypass!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

HAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

:L

Thank you Mister BV!
I am happy to provide a question for you to answer :L
You win the cookie :D

I my case, the dealer had me wait a few days to ensure he had all the parts he MIGHT need to repair the problem- including, if necessary, replacement of the CLB. My plan is to have this done right the first time, and only done once. :D -Patrick

VEHICLE RECALL 04006 now in play... Column LOCK

RECALL NOTICE 04006

AUTO and STICK.

On the Stick, your dealer will
1) reprogram the PCM and,
2) verify that there is adequate lock plate clearance and, if necessary, replace the lock plate. After this service, the steering column will continue to lock when the key is removed.

PARTS for the kit replacement are NOT available to most dealers yet.

btw on the AUTO, it's a bigger issue.
The GM dealer will remove the column lock on vehicles equipped with an automatic transmission. After this service correction, the steering column will no longer lock when the key is removed. AND they must change the complete steering wiring harness!!!

GET READY TO RUMBLE!!..:cool

Any bets??????

Any bets on how many vettes will be dropped from any dealer lift's during the visits??????? :eyerole Perhaps they don't need to put it on a lift???????

Do I have to get it done at a dealership??????????
