a snap on 12 point code reader said that there was miscommunication with the server possibly bad computer i believe code 12

So check the ECM's fault displaying capacity by doing it the old way.

If you can't get the SES light to flash that way then you have problems with the ALDL connector or wiring to ECM from said connector.

If light flashes as it should then the problem is with your code reader or cable
