Knowing the love for the Corvette we share and also knowing that the cars have annoying quality problems. I guess the first question is do you really need one loaded up with potential failure stuff like and I'm only guessing here ; the Heads up display. XM radio and On Star costs after initial subscriptions go out but aren't we stuck with the antenna for this stuff. I'm just asking in an awkward way here. I know if you love'em you accept it. Don't other things go wrong too?

C6 White for 2006
will be ordered for
late summer delivery.

HI there,
While I do agree that there are alot more modules and the like within the vehicle that could break or disable certain functions, this is the price of competition.
You could have up to 21 control modules within c6, this is for comfort and more enjoyable driving.
From a service standpoint, this is all new architecture in Corvette. While the systems individually have been out on other vehicles, the integration into Corvette and wiring are new. There are some who believe that XLR is the same, it is not. The wiring, and control module protocols are different.
Onstar(Generation6) is on most all trucks and high level vehicles, including Cadillac. Very reliable.
DVD navigation was introduced in Cadillac also. Very reliable also.
HUD, on Corvette for sometime, has been totally reworked to be more reliable and also give more information.
This is where your service department can really answer alot of questions.
If they know the cars, and will simply advise you on your car, I feel your mind would be put at ease. These systems are invisible unless you use them. If you dont use them, you really will not have any interference from them.
So far, I personally, am more impressed with Corvette than ever before. And we are very lucky to be able to have this technology in our favorite sports car.
I really think you will not have much of a problem.
My personal feeling, is that there is not enough technicians who really KNOW c6, that is where the problem comes in.
I mean, this car is all this, and then wiring on top of it.

No problems here. Traded my loaded 98 coupe for 2000 Mil. Yellow with HUD ,Z51,etc. Had no problems with anything major. By the way, the 98 had 37K at trade, the 2000 has 48K and my C6 is due in THIS WEEK !! Best cars I've ever owned.

I'm not sure I am convinced that because some components will work because they were on the Cadillac. I just don't think you should have to have this systems if you don't want them. I saw a Black coupe at Hendrick that listed for $57,000, XM, HUD On Star, I just don't need that stuff. I think the base is like 43 something isn't it?

Personally, I have no experience with OnStar but I do have plenty of experience with XM Radio and the HUD used on the Pontiac Grand Prix.

I've had XM Radio for a year now and honestly, in my opinion, it's one of those inventions where you say to yourself: "how the hell did I ever get by before without this!?" I LOVE my XM.

The Grand Prix belongs to a friend of mine and at first, it took about 15 minutes to get used to having this dull blue..."thing" on the windshield, but once I got used to it, I found it to be a worthy option and I liked having it. Not as much of a necessity for me as XM is, but nevertheless, a worthy option.

Just my opinion...

While I am not a fan of On-Star or XM-Radio, I really think that new cars including Corvettes are built much better than many people give them credit for.

I am sure we have met many Corvette owners who have had no problems, but we only focus on the the ones who do have problems just out of interest.

I remember that days when half the cars on the block wouldnt start every time it got really cold and snowed.

Yes, and the other half wouldn't start when they were hot.
I for one had no problems with my last two C4s, (91 & 93) and my 2002 C5 Z06 is going strong...doesn't skip a beat, no issues at all.

I hear you on concerns about the electrical architecture of the C6. My 98 convertible had NUMEROUS problems (42 trips to the dealer in 38 months, mostly electrical, with 5 steering column lock problems, which made the car undriveable) and 2001 had several electrical problems (2 steering column lock, in particular till the recall, in 2004, that should have happened in 1999, as all the cars had this issue, according to my dealer). That said, I just sold my '01 convertible and ordered an '05 convertible (which will be built when??) so, maybe Barnum was right.

I have 2,100 miles on my C6...no problems at all. Options include: HUD, XM Radio, and NAV.

Previous new Vettes: 2002 Z06, 2001 Z06, 2000 convert, 1999 convert, and 1984 Coupe....no problems with any of those either.

I think the C6 is a great car. Things will go wrong with any car. It's a fact of life.

So you buy a warranty.

Though I've only had my C6 a week, it feels really solid. I don't get the sense at all that this is a poorly built car, or one that I might expect having a lot of problems with. Everything seems to work well, and it is an absolute JOY to drive. I can't say I've ever had so much fun driving, and I've had some decent cars in the past.

My biggest problem the week I've owned the car is staying focused at work. I keep on finding excuses to drive.

You are so right... if you don't want them, don't order them. I ordered the 1SA package, and Z51 6-speed. My bottom line was 43K and change (with $2000 off MSRP with my great dealer!) You can get into a great sports car for the price point you decide... If I want XM, I'll use my $129 Roady2 XM through the FM transmitter, and the antenna on the dash. I like the HUD/NAV idea, but it's not worth $4000 for 1SB and then the cost of the items... (besides, the NAV won't play MP3s... and I've got 400 albums in MP3 format...)

You've just got to remember that some people love their vettes completely optioned out and have incomes/savings that allow them to have that freedom... Ain't America great! (If memory serves me right, In the old Soviet controlled East Germany, the cars made there had no options at all!)

Read the Ferrari Board for a while. It'll make you feel better.

Cheers!
