Junk I just found the 2 on the drivers side, they set side by side, cleaned them out; one had nothing in it, the other one has some crap, leaves, bugs and etc. in it, cleaned it out; when I found them they were a piece of cake to get to; but for the life of me I can not find, see or get to the one on the passenger side (RH side), I think I see part of it but I sure can't seem to get to it. It appears :confused that if I took the battery out I may be able to access at least the top part of it but even when the battery out it doesn't appear that I can reach the bottom where the slit is. Thanks and maybe when you get back with me it will make more sense. Is this the only one for the AC or is there more than one here? I have searched and searched the interenet for furthur instructions on this but I am not sure what I am looking for and the computer is only as smart as the :L lame brain running it esspecially in my case :ugh
Thanks,
Bill
The drain udders you mentioned from the driver's side drain the cowl (not the a/c). There are THREE udders on the driver's side - the third one is behind the other two. You can reach it with your hand - just be careful and reach further back under the cowl.
The right side cowl drain can be checked by removing the battery, then removing the long rubber udder. Or, you can remove the splash panel behind the right front tire, loosen the inner fender liner, and reach the end of the rubber udder.
NOW - The a/c condensation drain is a 90 degree rubber elbow that is attached to a plastic nipple that protrudes through the firewall, directly behind the right engine head. You can see it from the engine compartment with a flashlight, but it is almost impossible to reach from above.
Raise the right front of the car (use a jack stand......) when the engine is cold. You can reach up from underneath and remove the rubber elbow. I used a small, screwdriver type "tack puller" tool to help me.
Clean out the elbow and cut-off the end of it (the end that is moulded into a small opening). It is prone to clogging and may have white, crusty material in it. You may want to use a the non-clasp end of a plastic zip tie to "probe" the plastic nipple on the firewall to dislodge any other blockage. Do NOT use a metal probe - you may puncture the evaporator core.
Replace the rubber elbow on the plastic nipple and you're done.
The a/c drain clogged on my 1999 C5 coupe, causing water to overflow into the right passenger footwell - ruining the computer and disabling the car. After it was repaired under the new car warranty (5 days....) the drain clogged again. I now clean it when I change my oil as routine maintenance. The car is not driven in the rain / snow, and is stored in the winter.
This is a common defect / problem (poor design) with the C5's and one that Chevrolet engineering ignored.
Here is a link with excellent pictures of the a/c drain: http://forums.corvetteforum.com/showthread.php?t=1069597
I hope this information helps. Good luck. If you have further questions, please post them and I will try to help.
