Condensation or water leak on pass side floor board?

Junk I just found the 2 on the drivers side, they set side by side, cleaned them out; one had nothing in it, the other one has some crap, leaves, bugs and etc. in it, cleaned it out; when I found them they were a piece of cake to get to; but for the life of me I can not find, see or get to the one on the passenger side (RH side), I think I see part of it but I sure can't seem to get to it. It appears :confused that if I took the battery out I may be able to access at least the top part of it but even when the battery out it doesn't appear ;shrug that I can reach the bottom where the slit is. Thanks and maybe when you get back with me it will make more sense. Is this the only one for the AC or is there more than one here? I have searched and searched the interenet for furthur instructions on this but I am not sure what I am looking for and the computer is only as smart as the :L lame brain running it esspecially in my case :ugh

Thanks,

Bill :w

The drain udders you mentioned from the driver's side drain the cowl (not the a/c). There are THREE udders on the driver's side - the third one is behind the other two. You can reach it with your hand - just be careful and reach further back under the cowl.

The right side cowl drain can be checked by removing the battery, then removing the long rubber udder. Or, you can remove the splash panel behind the right front tire, loosen the inner fender liner, and reach the end of the rubber udder.

NOW - The a/c condensation drain is a 90 degree rubber elbow that is attached to a plastic nipple that protrudes through the firewall, directly behind the right engine head. You can see it from the engine compartment with a flashlight, but it is almost impossible to reach from above.

Raise the right front of the car (use a jack stand......) when the engine is cold. You can reach up from underneath and remove the rubber elbow. I used a small, screwdriver type "tack puller" tool to help me.

Clean out the elbow and cut-off the end of it (the end that is moulded into a small opening). It is prone to clogging and may have white, crusty material in it. You may want to use a the non-clasp end of a plastic zip tie to "probe" the plastic nipple on the firewall to dislodge any other blockage. Do NOT use a metal probe - you may puncture the evaporator core.

Replace the rubber elbow on the plastic nipple and you're done.

The a/c drain clogged on my 1999 C5 coupe, causing water to overflow into the right passenger footwell - ruining the computer and disabling the car. After it was repaired under the new car warranty (5 days....) the drain clogged again. I now clean it when I change my oil as routine maintenance. The car is not driven in the rain / snow, and is stored in the winter.

This is a common defect / problem (poor design) with the C5's and one that Chevrolet engineering ignored.

Here is a link with excellent pictures of the a/c drain: http://forums.corvetteforum.com/showthread.php?t=1069597

I hope this information helps. Good luck. If you have further questions, please post them and I will try to help.

Thanks for all that helped here, I still haven't found the AC drain yet but have a better idea of where it is at least. The udder on the RH side I have to get to yet also, it appears I can either remove the RF tire and inner fender well panel or get it from the top and remove the battery, not sure yet which will be easiest ;shrug

Thanks again folks I really do appreciate all the help here, any more tips would be great too, not it's just a matter of getting the time to get to it. This is just one of a million reasons that the members here make CAC the best Corvette internet site on the world wide web sites available.

(See photo inside Green Circle,Thaken from under the car between the frame and Rt exaust pipe!!):upthumbs:beer

You'll have to go from the bottom!!!:upthumbs

Thanks again Junk, I will check it out after the :lou race. If I've got a trace of water (condensation) on the RT floor board would it be likely this is the culprit? Should I cut the end of this hose off like someone else suggested ;shrug when I get it out or not? Just looking at it in the picture you sent it doesn't look as if it could plug up :ugh that easily :confused

I had the same problem with my 03 Z, this was after the windshield was replaced. I would think that the condensation is where your windshield is leaking. Does the condensation form on the passenger side windshield?? Hmm, sounds farmiliar.

Not sure, but mine has the original windshield, never seen anything at all on the dash or seat. There seems to be just a drop or so that drips on the RH floor board. My wife noticed it on the rare occassion that she rides over there dripping on her foot and etc. just a drop or so then :confusedThe temperature was in the high nineties, high humidity and the AC on full bore; so I guess I am not really sure other than it appeared to me it was condensation from the AC, like I said it is not much and if it was the windshield it would be when it rains or something and I very rarely have it out then. I still suspect concensation from the AC ;shrug Since no one rarely rides over there it could have been going on for quite sometime unbeknown to me.

It does seem to be further up towards under the dash area on the RH side of the floor board though so again I do think it is from the AC ;help

Thanks for your reply, just not sure yet and I will investigate further soon as I get the time.

My windshield leaked so bad that it ruined the carpet. I was not running my AC compressor belt at the time, so mine wasn't from the AC condensate drain. Condensation formed at the base of the windshield on the passenger side only. My passenger carpet would be soaked after a bad rain. This was getting into the channel in back of the BCM and around the fuse box, a real pain in the azz.

Did who ever put the windshield in pay for the carpet? Pretty sure my windshield is not leaking. Did it ruin anything else?
