Hi everyone;
There have been a many-of-you that has helped me attempt to identify if I had the actual ONLY Code 24 car in 1981.... all evidence pointed to it....

Finally I was alerted that I could order the dealer invoice for the car..... which I did..... At long last the mystery has been solved.....

Its not the one.

Original color was black 19L.

I have to say I have two feelings simultaneously; disappointment and joy. Disappointment of course because the car would have been worth money but more importantly it would have been "something special". As such, though, I would have stopped driving it entirely and would have never enjoyed the true essence of what it is made for - do be driven and driven aggressively.

I feel joy just for that reason! Now, I can take her out and down the road as often as possible and I don't have to worry about keeping every part original on it. So... I guess my two emotions cancel out and I'm just still the happy individual I've always been. :D

Again, a big HUGE thanks to all of you that have helped me. Its been a rocky road!!!

Still sounds like a roller-coaster ride to me! I'd have been wrung out.

You have NO IDEA!! Its nice to finally know for sure... seems like everything I tried along the way kept coming to a dead end! :)

Well now you can relax, pop the hood(hopefully), bleed the brakes and get out and drive!
Besides, Black is too hot a color where you live. Blue works.

BTW. I like the new picture, but where are the red shoes?:L

Okay I give up, what does it mean to have a code 24 car? I know what car 54 is (only as a rerun on Nick at night!)...
Sorry you didn't get the news you were hoping for, but still a hot car!

Well now at least you can rip that Chevy junk out and

plant in a nice HEMI!!!

;LOL

Sorry for your (if it was...) loss....

Are 81 vettes worth more or something? I seem to hear alot about them being rare

Glad to hear you will be driving that baby, Dawn! :D

What I would like to know is this: Were there ANY years where only ONE was made of a particular color? I have a tendency to say, "No". Even in 1994 when they stopped making the Copper Metallic color, they had built 116 of them. Very low run. But not just one.

For everyone's info: They just could not seem to be able to paint the bumpers the same color as the body. Each was off just a tinge.

Save The Wave! :w

Thanks all! Actually, black would look pretty hot on that vette too but the blue is just outstanding... when I get it repainted I'll surely post some pictures. I already have a black car so I'm trying not to repeat colors! I like variety... :)

Red shoes... hmmmm hee hee; that takes me back! ;)

Dawn,

Just an little FYI: The 'L" in 19L stands for lower. Since some cars came with an upper and a lower body color (2 tone). I'm sure the original trim tag on your car would have said 19L & 19U for the body color.

Don't know of any one-of colors, however, Nut has the only documented 81 delivered in primer.

Hey Guy,
You are right about the upper/ lower numbering even if same colour.
Mine had 38L & 38U being Dark Metallic Blue Upper & Lower from Bowling Green, and being 1 of only 496 cars this colour :W, until someone painted in black :duh

Interesting though, a guy on the L81 Reg site has an 81 he's selling with apparently a "416" trim code (full camel leather) and a no spec ext colour (now red), see link below if you want a look at his site.

Based on what I have seen and experianced in the past, its not un-known for the odd vehicle to perhaps be driven out the back door of the factory - rather than the front door to the showroom, by someone who knew someone, who was a mate of someone else!.
