are you sure it's not just switched on at the light switch? Rotate the knob and see what happens.

You states there is a short, is it blowing a fuse, if so which one?

Or is the dome light just staying on with power to it?

It just stays on..No blown fuses..I haven't really got into it yet I drive it daily..with the exception of snow or salt on the ground..134 K..and going strong

I don't know if this is helpful, but I had a similar issue when I owned my IROC. The cig lighter would stay in too long, and the fuse blew. I just can't remember what else was on that fuse, but there were other instruments connected to that fuse. I just gutted the lighter so no one would accidentally push it in. I believe the lighter drew more amps the longer it stayed in until the fuse blew. Maybe your lighter doesn't pop out when it's supposed to.
