Big John just let me know he picked up his new Callaway ride :cool
His SSR, the first one built, was picked up tonight - I asked John if he took the long way home - The long way through the state of Maine :D

Here is the press release from Callaway Cars website:

Congrats Big John :upthumbs

For release: 8/10/2004

Callaway/SSR #001 Hits the Streets

Old Lyme, CT - The Connecticut engineering firm announces that it has just released its first Callaway-modified SSR. Owned by a local Callaway enthusiast, Callaway/SSR #001 is equipped with a SuperNatural® 6.8L (414 cid) engine. In Corvette trim, with slightly different cam timing, this engine configuration makes 550 bhp, but the original equipment SSR intake and exhaust systems are much more restrictive than Corvette components. So, while this SSR has gained over 100 rear wheel horsepower, Callaway engineers plan to address intake and exhaust for still more power.

While the new Chevy is a real eye-catcher, this Callaway/SSR can talk the talk and walk the walk. When the hood is opened, the new 6.8L engine looks exactly like the original equipment 5.3L SSR engine that was yanked. But that's where the subtlety ends. CNC-ported LS6 heads cap off the C5R GM Racing cylinder block, housing a 4340 forged crankshaft, extra-long billet rods, Callaway's unique forged LS pistons, and new design ring package. Expert PCM calibration ensures that fuel, ignition, transmission and other operating parameters are optimized for maximum performance given the increased mass flow rate of the larger displacement engine. The end result is gobs of torque, reminiscent of big block El Caminos.

Callaway's approach to vehicle development is evident in this package: all SSR creature comforts still operate as designed and all Chevrolet engine management controls still have full function.

Stay tuned for dragstrip test results.
