Anyone know how to remove the power steering control valve from the steering rod? I understand it twists off however, I'm not sure if the pitman arm comes off first or possibly the tie rod. As it sits now, the shaft protruding from the valve catches in the pitman arm which inhibits its rotation and subsequent removal.
All four hoses as well as the slave cylinder are removed. So how about it, what next folks?

You need to seperate the control valve from the pitman arm and twist it off.

Thanks for the replies.

So it's not neccesary to remove the pitman arm from the steering box, nor is it neccesary to remove the tie rod? So what you're saying is that I should just seperate the pitman from the valve with a pickle fork and I'll be A-OK?

sounds good. Thanks for the help, I'm off to do some Hammerin'

Use a puller, otherwise you're goign to wreck the boot at a minimum. Also remove the bolt completely from the valve.

Update;
everything is removed and rebuilt. it goes back on tonight!

I didn't review the thread to see if anyone mentioned this, but DONOT reach your hand through the steering wheel when you start the car to adjust the control valve. Chances are pretty good that it is not balanced and it will turn the wheel VERY forcefully all the way to the left or right when the pressure comes up.

If your hand gets wedged in there you will break your wrist or arm! I unfortunately got the hell knocked out me this way, but fortunately my arm was able to travel almost as fast as the steering wheel.

Thanks for sharing your experience with us. It sounds like something I'd end up doing had you not forewarned me.

Success!
*looks great
*no leaks
*works very well
*less swearing putting it together than taking it apart
Thanks everyone.
