Herman,

I have seen several point distributors converted to use the Pertonix electronc conversion kit under the original dist. cap.

I personnaly believe that unless you are racing or using the car a the daily driver it just isn't needed. GM was able to make these engines make gobs of power without HEI and reliably, too. I tune my 67 L79 up every April and the points system is still funtioning great when replaced. Now, I may only drive about 1000 miles in the summer. But the point shave never failed me. And if they did, I could at diagnose where the problem is. Do that with HEI and no tools other than a scrwedriver, I think no.

My $.02

The standard Delco points distributor will work just fine, if it's properly set up (good bushings, .002"-.007" end play, properly-fitted breaker plate, 28-32 oz. Accel or B-W A112HP points); my (stock distributor, coil & wires) '69 Z/28 will wind all day long to 6500+ without a miss. The stock distributor gets a bad rap because nobody ever pays any attention to setting them up right; no need for an HEI. :Steer
