Hi

Anyone know of a place that puts convertible tops on in the Detroit, MI area? I have the old top fabric off and the new one has arrived. Not sure I can get it done myself or if I will need help.

Thanks!

Can't give you any installers way up there but I just had my new soft top put on my 75. I took the phone book and looked under upholstry shops that make/install convertible tops. I called the ones that sounded reputable and got a ballpark price. When I decided on one he told me it would be between $125 and $200, depending how much trim molding would need to be replaced. When I brought it in he looked at the job and told me that he should be able to do it for $125. About an hour later he called me and said that it was going to be a bigger job than he thought and would run $200. I don't think he was trying to rip me off because he told me I could come and get it and owe him nothing. I had him go ahead and install the new one and am glad that I did. He did a great job and when I looked at all he did, I don't think I could have done it myself. I may have spent a little more but it was worth it. I hope this helps, I will post a picture below for you to see.

$200 is a pretty reasonable price for a top install by a professional. It is worth that to me!

Try Shelby Trim at 17-1/2 & Mound in Sterling Heights, (586) 939-9090, talk to Ann Ditri, the Manager. They do exceptional work - made my Cobra top from scratch, several tonneau covers, and did the interior trim on my tube-frame Grand Sport.

Thanks John! I worked on the frame over the weekend. All cleaned and repainted. Need to replace one section of fiber board and the top is ready to go on.

I will see how I do but will keep this phone number at my side just in case...

Thanks again!

Convertible Top

Hi all

Well I finished the top last night! It looks great. Nice and tight. Only issue is the seam above the back window...

There is a strip called either Wire-on or some call it the finish bead that covers the seam. The one that came with the top isn't big enough.

Anyone know where I can get this strip in a wider width?

Let me know

Kevin

How tight should a convertible top be? The Corvette I just got has a fabric top that looks nearly new, but sags a small amount. Enough to have a few 1/32 or 1/6 inch deep puddles when I wash the car. Is that normal?

I'm not sure on a cloth top. The one I just finished putting on is vinyl and is very tight. Check out this sight and submit a question. They will let you know for sure.
