I recently noticed a small puddle of coolant below my radiator. My car hasn't been overheating and the coolant in the reservoir is at the proper line. After inspecting further, I found a rusty spot on the radiator that seems to leak coolant onto the fan shroud and then onto the floor of my garage. The coolant does not seem to leak when the car is running, but leaks after sitting in the garage for a day or two. Is replacing the radiator my only option, or is there another solution? ;shrug

I have a 71 vette and the same thing happen to me 7 months ago. I had it re-cored (I think that is what they call it). It enabled me to keep my original radiator, so I went with it.

Have you had any problems since? Was it expensive to have it re-cored?

I live in Florida and the guy that did it was a corvette specialist. I was warned that he is very good but expensive. I wanted some one to work on the car that would respect the value of the original parts. He sends his re-core radiators out, so I'm guessing you can find a place and get it done on your own (if you remove the radiator yourself). I was charged $350 for the re-core.

(knock on wood) I haven't had any issues. My mechanic told me this was the best route because it carries a longer warranty and I got to keep my original radiator (tanks). He said they pressure test it, etc.

Hope this helps but others reading this thread may have another opinion as I'm not very mechanical.

If you don't have to original, you can put in a dewitts alum radiator for just a little more, and it cools better.
