I just got my car out of the shop with a new ECM on it but the fan still will not turn on.The dealer says that the cooling fan switch is blown but they could not find this switch,The tech says the switch should be down on the drivers side of the engine just above the 1st two spark plugs.
I have already change the relay on the wheel well and also the sensor on the ft by the intake.
I am hoping someone mite be able to tell me where i mite find this cooling fan switch..
i own a 1986 convertible.

Scooter...

The auxillary fan sensor is in the head, depending upon the model year it varies as to which head it can be found. If it isn't in the left head, then it's in the right. That is, if you have an auxillary (pusher) fan. ;)

The main coolant sensor that the ECM uses for the main fan can be found at the front of the intake manifold.

Thanks for the quick reply Ken. I have already changed the main coolant sensor in the front of the intake. THe mechanic asked me if I have changed the heads on the car but I have owned it 2 years and I don't know. He also said that the sensor should be on the left head. How would I know if I have an auxillary (pusher) fan??

Also Ken do u think i could put in a fuseable link off the red wire in the harness that go's into the relay on the left wheel well...

RPO B4P if you still have the options list in either your center console (under the lid) or the same place under one of the lids of the rear cargo storage areas. RPO B4P was part of the Z51 option package.

As for adding a fusible link... Well, I'm certainly not an electrician - everybody knows that! :L

Hopefully someone can provide an answer for that question for you. :CAC

'90 fan switch

Dunno bout yours but my '90's fan switch is on the passenger side below the middle two spark plugs if memory serves me correct. It threads into the block I'm pretty sure. That is if you are talking about the temp sender. Mine has dual fans, side by side, on the back side of the radiator.

Don't know if this is any help.

:w

Tks for info,I went ahead and changed the old fusible link and fan still didn't turn on.
I wired in a seperate on/off switch and that works but i would really like it to go on/off when needed..There is a sensor on the passanger side but i thought it was just for the temp gage..
At what temp would i have to turn the fan on manually???
IL have to check on in the console for the options list and let u know...
