Correct plug For 98 LS1

I called my chevy dealer/AC/Delco parts dealer, and gave him the plug number that is recomended for the vehicle #41-931, he said there was no such number or a cross reference, but said #41-985 is the plug listed , it also said this in the ac/delco website for the part search, Is this the replacement plug, if so is it still gapped at .060.

NM, plugs were the 41-985, put them in along with new wires.

I ran into that when I changed the plugs in my 98 vette. I found the gap for the new # plugs is .040" I tried to get one of the new plugs to .060 and the gap was so uneven and hard to do that I decided to go with .040 rather than mutilate the plugs. As far as I can tell the engine performs just as well.

Go with the 41-985. The gap should be set up at .40 from factory. .40 is the correct gap.

Hmmmm, they told me they were still .060, I gapped them accordingly, didnt have a problem setting at .060, Geez I hope this doesnt cause problems, seems to run just fine.

The Iridium 41-985 should be left alone and NOT regapped.
This is due to anti corrosion coatings put on the electrodes at manufacture.
03-06-04-060 is the bulletin number, and has all pertinant information on the spark plug update for all 97-04 Corvette, and other Generation 3 powered vehicles.
41-985 and if they are new, no antiseize or oil, torqued to 11 ft lbs.
If they are not gapped at 040 out of the box, we are instructed to NOT USE THEM. Get others.

So your saying I must remove them and fork out another 60 buks for new ones even though they are working fine, and had no problem gapping them.

It may shorten the life of the plug slightly.
Also, the newer PCM calibration for the Corvette has changed to optimize the performance of the engine with the new plugs.

So the 1998 pcm calibration wouldn't fall into the Newer calibration category then , correct.

Run a VIN check at your local dealer and see if you have the latest updates. If the column lock recall was done recently it should have the latest pcm calibration. You might want to re-gap the plugs to .040.

Hi there,
PCM calibrations are constantly being updated by GM for product improvements. I recommend having your vehicle check once a year for periodic updates.
But LLC5 is right, if you have the 04006B recall done, the newest calibration is in there.

Instead of worrying about the Plug gap I purchased another set in installed them right out of the box.

As far as the recalls done, I just purchased the vehicle Christmas Eve Day, so I dont have any idea if they have been done, was this a specific 1998 recall, if so, All I have to do is go to a dealer and they can tell me what has been done, Or if anyone here in the Forums works at a Dealer, I can give them the VIN #, if that is possible I would greatly appreciate it,Im tooo ..mn busy to get to the dealer anytime soon,I didnt even have time to register the vehicle yet.
