Could someone post a picture of the politicaly correct placment of both air vent knobs and the odomiter reset? I've been through the web searching for pictures and am unable to locate. My 64 assembly manual shows both vent knobs to the right of the steer column, is this correct? It's been 2 years since tear down. Also, the OD reset position.
64 non air / manual trans / FI
Getting close!
Anyone in need of a Steel Body Dolly?
Thanks,
Clint

Heh Clint.. I'm sure you'll have your answer shortly.. I would think it's one on either side of the column ....not both on the same side. Left vent left side of column right Vent Rright side. That's how my 65 is.. If I'm wrong some one correct me.

are you sure the diagramn in your AIM form a 'vert and not a coupe?
on my '65 COUPE, there are THREE knobs under there - two on the left and one on the right of the steering column.
the left fresh air vent is on the left of the column and the right air vent knob is to the right of the steering column, but the second knob to the left of the column is the control knob and cable for the rear blower motor that was on '64 and '65 models only and it looks the same as the fresh air vent cable knobs.
Your 'vert won't have that rear blower motor control knob but perhaps they are still showing it in the AIM because of the coupe models.
Are you sure they aren't showing the two knobs on the left PLUS the knob on the right of the column?

I didn't bring the assembly manual in to work this am, but it had just walked through the air option. Then it showed the rear vent for a coupe (I'm a Vert). It may have been for the coupe that, both knobs were pictured on the right of the column as percieved from sitting in the drivers seat. I went through all the sales adds on used midyears I could find. Few showed the lower of the column. I installed mine last night; I put one on each side of the column and I placed the OD reset in a bracket that was part of the "V" bracket that secures the column tube.
These are things easy enough to change later, if I get a responce from someone knowing.
It is my hope and dream that I am toolin around in my car Memorial weekend around Myrtle Beach area.
I have only a few items left to go; Seats, trim around windshield, and to install the guts back in both doors.
I'm sure I'll have more questions as we get into replacing the rubber in the vent windows.
There is not one component I have not rebuilt/replaced on my Fuelie. I can comfortably say, I can help answer anyones questions on something I have already experienced the process.

The convertible L/R vent cable supports go on both sides of the steering column, equally spaced from the centerline of the column. The odometer reset cable goes through the hole in the column support immediately inboard of the steering column. :)

John - Thanks
That made absolute logical sence to me; I realy wanted to hear it from someone though. Digging further, I found it in my assembly manual page D54.
It confirms your dirrective for me.

Let me back up a moment with why I struggled with the proper placement (besides it being 2 years ago and a memory thing). When I installed the left cable and vent, the dramatic bends needed to mount the handle made the cable almost impossible to actuate. This was why I thought it must be positioned wrong. I've removed the cable, cleaned, and greased it. It is still difficult to operate.
