Corvette Destroyed In Fiery Crash

By Scott Wintermute
Ojai Valley News

Ojai, CA - At around 12:30 Friday afternoon a late model Chevrolet Corvette Z06 was destroyed in a dramatic crash and ensuing fire near Mile Marker 30 on Maricopa Highway. Despite the presence of a rescue helicopter the driver of the $70,000 sports car was transported by ambulance to Community Memorial Hospital in Ventura as a precautionary measure. He apparently avoided major injuries, and was responsive and answering questions when CHP officers arrived.

Also note that the story said they were concerned about a "gun in the car" OMG! Stop the violence!... Also worthy of note one of teh comments were "cars that fast shouldn't be allowed to the public".... Give them time they'll get there. Personally I think that if you get ANY monies from the government you have not earned through SERVICE or contribution, you should be required to drive a Chevy volt unless there is govt funded mass transit with in a couple hours walk or bike ride! heheeheh They could make it a function of the health reform bill

As for the gun part. The vehicle was fully engulfed, they were probably concerned with any rounds going off. That meakes a simple car fire a bit more dangerous to emergency personnel.

According to the article, it was in a lock box in the trunk. Not a BFD.
As for the car, another typical example of what happens when the capability of the car far exceeds that of the driver. Chevy should really require qualifications of customers for these Vettes or the reactionary 'safetycrats' will have a field day. I know this topic can go on and on, but I think we all know 'whassup' ;squint:

Interesting angle the newspaper took. Sensational media.
Here's what we do know~
1. It's got nothing to do with "The driver couldn't handle it." The Z can make ANYONE a passenger amazingly quick. Anyone.
2. Over the last 4 years, we've seen Z's on their hoods, rolled, upside down and 2 on fire. Granted it takes "special effort" to get a Corvette to roll, but with soft ground, it's possible. The point is...that the driver comes out relatively unscathed for such a horrific situation. This says A LOT about how safe the Corvette is.
There are quite a few Corvette owners who keep guns in their cars (they most likely have them in their homes too...)
3. HWY 33 is a great source of entertainment if you have a sportscar and there's no Camry in front of you. These things happen to the best of us. We don't know the full story. Deer or pig in the middle of the road? We don't know. Everything else is just speculation.
