corvette hubs

I was cleaning my chrome wheels on my 2008 vette with a spray on chrome cleaner from mequires- The gray hubs behind the wheels ended up with little spots. Is there any way I can get those out?

I think that I would try a cleaner like Adams APC (All Purpose Cleaner) thinned down a little with water. Simple Green is a similar product. Scrub with a brush and wash it down.
