I have a 1980 Corvette and water is somehow getting into the floor mat. Ive had it for 4 years and its never leaked and the t-tops arent leakin. I dryed the floor mat out the other day then recovered it, then it rained and i just checked it and its wet agin. The seats arent wet, only the floor mat carpet. Im afraid that all the water will ruin the flooring. Any ideas how where it could be leaking at? Thanks

hey Bob, got a quick ? for ya what does the rubber tube on the side of the A/C blower do? also what motor did you go with for your upgrade?

Joe,

I haven't done the motor yet. I had some mechanical things that took precedent this year.

I'm not sure what the rubber tube that runs from the fan to the box is. It appears to be either a drain or a source of cool air for the back of the fan.

if it fogs up and smells, it could be the heater core leaking. Otherwise, how about a missing "drain plug" in the floor ? If I remember correctly (ha, ha), there are plugs about a inch long that protrudes downward, ostensibly, to drain off any water from above, but not to let water in. If it was missing, it COULD, perhaps, maybe, possibly leak from splash. Good luck, jim

Check the cowl (area under the windshield wipers) for cracks. Over time this area is known to leak water. I've got cracks out the wazoo that I need to fix. Everytime I wash the car, water leaks onto the floor board.

Hey thanks. I bet it is the cowl space, cause i had a feeling that it was there...there is alot of leaves in the cowl space also, i guess that could be keepin the water in one spot long enough to leak into the cracks. When it gets warm, im going to clean out the cowl space. I have a 97 Chevy truck too and i had to fix the wiper motor, but i didnt get one of the vents put back right on the left side and now it leaks into the passenger side floor board..so thats why i figured that it was that space on the car, but i didnt know the name of it. TILL now. :D I really appricate that link also.

Joe,

I found that info.

The hose is for motor cooling, and necessary to be plumbed into the a/c box just like the old one, may need fab up something to work there...I did...make sure it's the absolute largest diameter you can, that motor needs cool air to survive....

I recently replaced a fender section and could not believe how much crud can accumulate over the tops of the side vent doors which won't allow rain water to drain out the bottom of the fender properly. It may come right in the vent doors. That water would come from the wiper area. Check it by running a water hose into the wiper grill. Let us know what you come up with! Good luck!

I FOUND IT! I poured some water in the wiper area and it wasnt there. so i poured some on the hood and it went down in the motor area. It was the plug around the hood latch has came out. I wasnt able to find the passenger side leak, but it might be that same leak and running down to the passenger side, i dont know. I guess ill try to put some seal around that plug. Thanks for all the help.

Glad you located the leaK! Thanks for the feedback and report--it helps all of us that either have the same problem or that encounter it in the future!-GPB

It sure sounds like the heater core....it is under the pass side dash....it will leak into the pass side and also fog up the windows and give the smell of anti-freeze

Yeah, the passenger side might be the heater core, cause my windows do fog up, but i dont smell any anti freeze and it never is empty. How can i check to see if its the heater core? And would that make my heater not work? I might know the reason that the passenger side has been leakin, cause the other night i closed the door and noticed that the window didnt go all the way under the windshield..and the gap that it left sure would have let lots of water leak in, but the seat isnt wet and it seemed like it was coming in from inside. Youre welcome for the report, i really appresate all the help. Im not sure if ill be able to get online in the future though, cause im getting married April 10th. :D And we might turn the internet off to save some money. I know this is off topic, but my corvette was my first car :D Its been cold lately, or i would have had a report sooner.
