Anybody got an easy way to remove the one "special" wheel lug nut. The lug nut key for my 2002 coupe is missing. Thanks Don

Disregard I found that a 20 MM 12 point socket works just fine to remove the
special lug nuts. I replaced them with standard Corvette Lugs.

Disregard nothing!

You just saved my Vette a trip to the dealership, and I have been agonizing over this for months.
Thanks!

Thanks for reminding me. I had been meaning to get rid of those useless wheel locks.

Didn't work on mine. There goes $11.00 for a 20mm socket.

Maybe if I grind some of the points out.

Did GM put on those "special" nuts just so people had to take their cars in to the dealership? Or did they really have some other intention in mind? It really just sounds like a pain. However, if you plan on keeping your Corvette a numbers matching for many many years then I would keep those lugs, they might be a way to tell 30 years down the road just how original the car is.

I went to the dealer yesterday and bought some replacement locks for the Vette with the intention of replacing them with some that I actually have a key for. I will have to wait for spring to get those old ones off now.

Pound it on

I had to pound the socket onto the lug with a hammer, carefully apply torque counterclockwise ( if it slips pound it on harder ) then pry/pound the lug out of the socket. Good luck, Don

The pounding of a socket onto the nut technique worked for me. The socket will probably be ruined but if you find the right size it will work.

Mike

I have had to resort to the socket pounded onto lock several times and always worked. These are only good for keeping an honest person honest. They wouldn't slow down a thief at all.

Mine was "cleaned out" of the car by a consignment dealer before I bought it, along with the build sheet, manual, spare keys and fob. The only thing in the car was a cigar cutter, tic-tacs, and cat ****.
