Corvette Museum meets goal to build new motocross track

By ROBYN L. MINOR
The Daily News

The National Corvette Museum exceeded its $1 million fundraising goal and will break ground June 28 for the Motorsports Park.

“This is awesome,” museum Director Wendell Strode said. “We are still trying to do some fundraising between now and then.”

When the pledges from the weekend were all added up, the museum exceeded its goal by more than $95,000.

They were collecting all that money for a...a MOTOCROSS track?!:mad

That better be a typo! A lot of us would like to see some of those millions go toward buying historical/significant CORVETTES for the Corvette Museum.

Read the article, folks...

“In general I think that this will put Bowling Green on the map in a whole different way,” Fitch said. “The people who do high-performance driving training travel all over the country to take instruction, and we have not had facilities before. So these may be people who have never been to Bowling Green, which really opens up our automotive enthusiast target market.” museum Director Wendell Strode said.

In the article (not the title), it is called a motorcross track and they're talking about developing an autocross course, a skid-pad area and more... I'm thinking it's a great fit for the Musueum. Get museum delivery of your new Vette and then flog it around the course!!

Road Course

The 3.15 mile road course will be built to accepted professional design standards.

The Corvette Racing/Pratt & Miller Team has contributed to the layout of this track and will include features from some of their favorite and most challenging tracks:

  • Le Mans circuit Mulsanne straight and turn combo (straight is not full length)
  • Le Mans circuit Porsche curves
  • Nurburgring Karussell Corner
Autocross / Skid Pad Training Area
Variable configurations for auto cross and wet/dry skid pad area.
Estimated Project Costs
Land Costs – $2,700,000
Road Courses – $7,060,000
Autocross, Skid Pad, Paddock – $4,400,000
Control Tower – $300,000
Water and Sewer – $1,515,000
Engineering and Design – $500,000
Total Estimated Costs – $16,475,000
To date, the NCM has spent $2,999,017 on the project, including the purchase of land.
The NCM has an option on the adjoining 221 acres. There are several opportunities that could be constructed if and when the option is exercised and sufficient fundraising is achieved. Those opportunities include a third road course, a drag strip, a karting track, garages, condos, classrooms, fueling station, track store and concessions

We're just jerkin' your chain, Mac.

Everyone knows NCM is buidling a "motorsports" track not a motocross.

As for the drag strip, my understanding is that with Beech Bend a mile away, there are no plans, at this point, to add a drag strip.
