I went to the Corvette dealer here in Bitburg, Germany yesterday. There was an interesting brochure sitting near the vettes. It was for a Corvette-Europe (GM) sponsored Corvette driver training class. You can get more information at this web site:

http://www.corvette-performance-training.com/eng/cpt_intro.htm

Participants still need to pay a fee for the 1-day class but it is interesting that it is offered. From the website it appears it was offered in 2005 as well.

I wish GM could offer something like this in the US. My guess is that it it is not offered due to potential liability problems.

Just thought I'd offer what I found to the group.

Welcome to the CAC Xcutter! :w

I have seen several driving programs online. My observation is that GM sponsors driver training for new corvette owners in Europe. Why not in the US too.

The short answer is that they don't have to, so they won't unless it's a revenue stream move. GM already helps underwrite at least one, and probably more than one, high performance driving school, so they would be in competition with themselves. As long as they sell out each years' production, they don't have to get too creative. Wish it wasn't the case though.:)

One reason I can think of is that the U.S. doesn't have an Autobahn.
We don't have any roads that can reasonably be navigated safely at high speeds legally, so therefore we don't need a high performance GM sponsored school to teach something that would be considered illegal on the road.

The cheapest way to test drive a C6 is in Las Vegas NV. Behind the Sahara Hotel, there is what is called "The Drive." for a measly $10, you get to drive your choice of two corvettes for two laps each around a "Performance" track. The track is small, starting with a quick striaght that the C6 will reach nearly 70 MPH. A left 90 degree turn to a three turn slalom, followed by a left 130 degree hairpin turn. The final leg has a slow right turn that the car can reach 50-60 MPH. Take your choice of base, F-55 Mag ride or Z-51 suspensions. $10 Two laps in two separate cars with a pro in the passenger seat urging you on. Certainly not soley worth a trip to Vegas, but if you are there, it is a must do. Step one is a breath-alizer, so beware.

If you're going to Vegas, then go to the Bragg-Smith Advanced Driving school. It's a 3 day intensive driving course using Corvettes exclusively.

This is now Spring Mountain Advanced Driving School. Rupert Bragg-Smith sold the school and track two years ago. It is the same location, the same instructors (with several additions), an additional 1.5 miles of track, a brand new building and still lots of fun.
