Corvette stolen during Woodward Dream Cruise, again

BIRMINGHAM — For the second year in a row, Birmingham police are investigating the theft of a classic Chevrolet Corvette during the Woodward Dream Cruise.
The first theft of a classic car — a 1966 Chevrolet Corvette — occurred during the Dream Cruise last year on Aug. 16. Police said the owner of a midnight-blue Corvette convertible left the classic car parked on Old Woodward while he went to get a bite to eat. About 10 minutes later, police said, a witness saw an unknown white man, with brown hair and in his 40s, driving the car away. The car — which was equipped with pedal locks and valued at $80,000 — was never recovered.
Birmingham police were hit with a strong case of déjà vu this year when the owner of a red 1964 Chevrolet Corvette convertible reported it had been stolen during the 2009 Woodward Dream Cruise Aug. 15.
